I just bought a eureka tent, they came out with 3 new backpacking tents this year. The one I got is a 3 man tent and weights 4lbs 14 oz. 1800mm floor and wall. I only plan on using it in the early season so I am hoping for the best.

I use the MSR Hubba. It has a minimum pack weight of 2lb 13oz. Not at all roomy, but light to carry. It seems ok, it stood up to a night of heavy wind and rain and it didn't get wet inside or get any damage from the wind.

i use a stephenson's warmlite tent. the company is a bit odd (their owner's manual and catalog used nude models b/c they are nudists) and they've never made much of a commercial success, but it is an amazing light and strong tent that sets up faster than anything else i've seen.

lots of folks swear by hilleberg too.

Mec tarn2......in theory 2 men can fit in it..real world it's a nice one man 3 season tent. Not the absolute lightest tent but it's pretty light and not uber expensive.

Check out the Big Agnes Copper Spur SL. 4 lbs. 3 oz. 3 person/3season rated tent. Double vestible. Bigger than most other tents with a 70x90 inch footprint. Have not actually used this tent yet just got it for X-mas. but it looks impressive. Other guys that I hunt with are using Mountain Hardware Skyledge tents. They are approx. the same weight but the Skyledge is only 58 in wide for the 3 man tent.

Hi Kako

I have 2. I opted for tents that were a bit heavier than the super lightweight options because I didn't want to drop $500+...I had so many other more needy things to buy so this is what I did.

I have had a North Face Big Fat Frog for a couple of years. It is a good 1 person tent that has a MASSIVE vestibule. This has been my go to pack tent because it is amazingly waterfroof and I can put my pack in the vestibule with room to spare. Packs at about 5lbs.

Here is a Big Fat Frog video of a massive storm that flooded most of a town, and the tent stayed dry: http://vimeo.com/12176407 video doesn't show the tent but I have stayed bone dry in it for days on end of rain.

This year I bought a Mountain Hardwear Drifter 3 because I needed a tent that could sleep 2. It weighs the same as the North Face but I can easily fit another person in it and has room for a queen size mattress for those camping type trips. This one has 2 vestibules and 2 doors. I have not given it the monsoon test yet but from everything I have read it will hold up. Also I found an amazing online deal for $140.00 so I pulled the trigger.

It's only been on a couple of short backpack trips last season but so far the Alps Mountaineering Vertex 2 has done it's job. It's big enough for two but it is tight. The thing I liked about it was it is equipped with two doors and two vestibules which I find really handy and it didn't break the bank. I'm not sure if it's the tent for an extended fly in trip into the northern mountains but it does the trick for me and my short backpack trips into the mountains here in the Kootenays.

Obviously it depends a bit on what you want it for, but I bought the MSR hoop and like it quite a lot!

I've got a north face vario33 they say its a 3 man I say 2 is comfortable a vestibule on each side and weighs 5lbs i hate small little tents and if your hunting with a partner it's nice to have the 2 vestibules. I've had about 1/2" rain one day while using it and it kept everything dry. another thing which suprsed me was condensation hasn't been much of an issue either.

Trophy slayer, what's the condensation like in the 33? I have the 23 and found the condensation a little much it it's wet...that being said it is suuuuper light and if it's not too wet outside it seems to work nicely.
