If it was shot in Idaho, I can almost guarantee it was off a game farm. Nice GMO'd elk though.

Wait I thought all the Elk in the Kootenays are dead now with the open season on Cows and no LEH in the West. The any buck season killed off all the Muledeer. You're way off base....

Shot on the Broadmouth Canyon Ranch. High fence hunt, so no cigar on the world record "fair chase" record books.

It's from a high fenced ranch. Qualifies SCI but that's about it. Pretty much BS. Show up with $50k and shoot it

x2.

My taxidermist showed me elk racks last year that he was doing up and went 500 and high 400's. Same thing - an elk farm. If you want to breed them and sell the velvet to old Chinese men or have them mounted as nice furniture, that's fine by me. But driving some rich bozo up to a trapped animal so he can play hero and shoot it and then call it "hunting"? Mildly disgusting, really.

I think Broadmouth Canyon Ranch has both "free range" and "Bambi in a Barrel" hunts.

So what if it was shot in a fenced enclosure? Not my cup of tea for sure, but big deal he shot an animal.

If he wants to spend the money, he really enjoyed it and its legal --- so what.

I totally agree. That kind of hunting is a joke. I would be ashamed to have my pic taken with one. It should be mandatory to show the chain link fence in the background.

Look up "fair chase". Pretty much fundamental to the idea of hunting. Inside a high fence is not fair chase, therefore not hunting. Just shooting livestock.

I always tease those folks that I know that go on fenced hunts as to why their taxi displays don't include wire! They don't like it, much as I don't like fenced hunts.

Re-read the post and substitute "livestock" for "animal"

I did not mention hunting

Alright fair enough, you don't see it as hunting either. The problem I have is that buddy posing with the giant rack obviously thinks it is. I'll take every opportunity to distance the notion of hunting from this sort of crap.
