This deer I watched for a while and being in Coquitlam it's was easy to go out after work and see what we could find out back in the blueberry fields. I had a trail cam set up and had a pretty good idea of what deer were around and where they were coming and going. Being in the blueberry fields there was no opportunity to set up a tree stand. Finally September rolls around and it's time to get this monster. I managed to get out hunting on the farm quite a few times in September passing up smaller deer and some decent 4pts, by the end of September I had played cat and mouse with this thing 6-8 times. The blueberry fields provide quite a challenge sneaking up on deer, there is some cover but you can't shoot across rows very well and it's to loud to cut through the rows. In the 6-8 encounters I had drawn on him and stopped him but a bush was in the way, I had him and another 4 pt at 5 yards and not able to draw on him, had him at 10 yards and not able to draw. I had him walking out of the end of the row and tried draw early before he was in view and out of the bushes and he heard and turned around and walked back. Then finally early October rolls around and I've got him walking down the row towards the opening I kneeled down 5 rows back from the he was coming down just down the row to provide a little cover, earlier he had busted me trying to draw early so I figured this time I would let him walk past me before i drew, I was waiting and waiting for him to make his way down the row and trying to be patient and not stand up to see where he was at. Finally I see him make his way out of the row and he is looking the other way just under 20 yards from me I draw, just as I get my bow back and anchored he stops and looks straight at me, I let the arrow fly and with a big thud it strikes him just behind the shoulder. Found him about 40 yards from where I hit him crashed into a blueberry bush.

I will try to update the original post and put in the story by the end of the day, it was out of Coquitlam, 17th biggest in BC, spott and stalk. The area it came out of is now closed to hunting.

Yea there was a nice 4x4 that year I got that one he would have been really nice last season or this year, but the city of Coquitlam shut all that down.

They are blueberry bushes.

WOAH !!!....that is a damned fine animal. I cant imagine the pressure of keeping your shit together while drawing on such a beast.
Curious to know what kind of pressure they had while and before you hunted him? very skiddish? was there other guys after him to? or did you have the place to yourself?
Would be great to see trail cam pics of him standing.
Also , what was the girth measurement above the brow? what a beautifull deer , way to go !

Sorry, newb here, but I'm really quite lost.
I thought that the bow season in Region 2 was between Sept 1 and Sept 9? And open season was from the 10th until late November or mid December?

Is this an LEH thing?

I'm thinking by the foilage on the blue berry bushes, this pic may have been taken awhile ago.. like maybe September, or something..(purely speculation tho) :-)

Hey Hunter 1947 , twice you referred to a "Coastal" BT deer . I hope this is not a Coastal verses Island inference .

Hey bud I call them coastal back tail deer because they are close to the island excuse me or should I call them Fraser valley deer or mainland deer or Chilliwack or other LOL frankly I really don't care what you think all in all I admire this deer to no end and that's what counts to me LOL :)..

Bow only season Sept 1 - Sept 9. Did you sleep through the reg. section when you did the CORE program? LOL
Obviously bows are part of open season, and it's merely a missed word on my part.
Did you sleep through the section about being a courteous hunter?
Thanks for the welcome to the forum. :)
