I went with the enduro ct014 legs, and the Giotto MH-5001 head. The legs @ 2lbs, for a full size, a good option IMO. Can't tell you about the head yet but it will be here in a couple of days. Word is that the head is smooth, strong, but a bit heavy. For the price that head is suppose to be good value. Good luck in your search.

I have a Outdoorsman tripod with a pistol grip and absolutely love the pistol grip and tripod. This is not a backpacking tripod and was expensive. I got tired of crappy tripods and bought one with few moving parts. I would love to find a tripod that is light and I could backpack with. I have a Bushnell to backpack with but it always has issues on every trip.

I have a vortex high country. It's light and for around $100 it's cheap. It's a great starter

I bought the SLIK CF624 with a three way pan head and love it. Total wt = 2lbs 6oz and folds down to 14". Cost if I recall was $~350.00. The only complaint I have is it can't extend high enough (44.7"), but for sheep hunting it will do just fine. A real joy to use compared to cheap tripods that I have used in the past. When I find the animal I can just tighten right on it, instead of adjusting for the tripod settling after it is tight.

I bought an Outdoorsmans with the pistol grip head this year. It is more expensive than the price range you listed but the quality and weight are fantastic. I was really hesitant to spend that kind of money but I got tired of replacing cheap tripods every couple of years and not being able to stabilize the spotter well in any kind of wind.

Outdoorsmans medium tripod with the pistol grip is about as good as it gets. I have a Vortex and its pretty sweet once you learn how to center the image in the bottom of the scope and the wind isnt blowing.

I have tge summit ss... compact and light... but I find it little flimsy and the head doesn't stay tight.

That being said.... it gets the job done and I can pack it in my teeth with a small digital camera on it.

I have a vortex high country. I'm not one to shy away from dropping big bucks on solid gear but haven't been able to find a better lightweight tripod than the vortex. Anything more solid is too heavy and anything as light is not as solid. It's reallya marginal tripod but to carry a nice one is just too heavy.

I have a manfroto pistol grip and its a monster. I hate packing it but sacrifice the weight for the rewards of easy spotting. I think with the tri pod it weighs just over five pounds. if I were to go on a sheep hunt I would leave the pistol grip and just take the small swivel head. hard to use but still works. cuts the weight nearly in half.

Slik pro CF613 w/ manfrotto 486RC ball head. I will NEVER use a different combo. Very light, compact, rock sold, twist locks and did I mention steady?
