I've done a few hikes for deer sheds with no luck. All winter I was keeping track of some bull elk with my trail cams.
March 7, after debating whether to put my camera out one more time, I filled a bag with some hay and headed out. After about 10min from my truck I heard some noise up ahead. 100yds later I came upon some fresh elk sign, large bull tracks. They were milling about feeding. I looked around some more and saw fresh tracks running away. I stopped to glass into the distant timber hoping to catch a glimpse of the bull and see if he was still packing his antlers. As I scanned the timber I spotted an antler. After running up to it I saw the match 25yds away. They fell off as he ran off after he heard me coming. The noise I heard was one of the antlers hitting a rock under the snow. They are 6x9.

Some Sweet Fresh Tine There!!! Congrats! I had a big bull run away from me a couple years ago at the end of March. Could hear his antlers hitting the trees but they didn't pop off. A week later I saw him and he had several inches of growth on his new rack. Never did locate those sheds.

very cool! thats a great looking bull, i'm enjoying all your shed pics! cant get them much fresher than that!

Nice find 1975 no luck finding the other side ???? I am headed out for a two day stay today shed hunting some where in the wild..

This one is weird, I've walked by it a few times this year thinking it was a stick or a root. The short stub would have been his main beam and the long club, his g-1, grew out above his nose.

Nice find from last year and I see no squirrels where in the area ,,thats a wired deformed antler you found nice to have one like this....

Couple pretty sweet finds in there :) Lookin forward to seeing what you pick up for deer sheds this year!

That is sooo funny....you ran up to it as tho it was going to disappear.
I should not laugh...I do the same thing.

LOL I am the same way when I see a fresh elk shed I look all around me first to make sure there is no one els that is going to run up and grab that shed I see LOL I then run to it and film it then pick it up reminds me when I was a little kid at Christmas time getting up to open up my Christmas presents just like when I find a fresh elk shed LOL better then sex LOL :mrgreen:..

easy now better than sex I am not sure about that
