I have a BSA 30 06 that I'd like some info on. Age make etc.
It has a lot of little markings on it such as BV with a small crown over it, BP with a crown over it, EV with a crown over it, NP with a crown over it. Says nitro proof on the barrel, stamped Made in England back near the bolt release spring and has the BSA symbol stmped on top at the back of the reciver. Appreciate any info you could give me on this. Will try to post pictures with it.

At the end of the war there was a big surplus of Enfield rifles. Many of them were bought up by companies such as BSA. They then stamped their name on them and mounted them on a sporterized stock. I am pretty sure if you were to look up 1917 Enfield in a rifle schematic book you would see that this is the action that you have. The markings that you see on the gun are proof marks. The reason I know this is that a friend of mine had one just like yours that he asked me to refinish and I learned the history at that time.

Yep, the rifle shot a nice 5 point whitetail this year. It definitely shoots straight (and so does Buckman). :)

Buckman , i was a little curious about your rifle so i did a little research this afternoon and completely agree with todbartell.i was looking at your pics and was wondering if that is the letter E stamped on the bolt catch release. If it is that rifle was built in the EddyStone plant in EddyStone P.A and from what i can figure probably between 1917-1918.I was wondering if there are any letters stamped on the left side of the stock (most commonly) and they might be inside a rectangular box.?I was also wondering if there are any numbers stamped on the barrellsuch as 4-17 0r 5-17 something that might look like a date (month/Year).

There is an E stamped on the bolt catch release and on the safety also. No dates marked on the barrel that are visible. might be under the scope mount or if I took the stock off there might be something stamped there.

The E indicates it was made in the Eddystone P.A plant which was the converted Baldwin locomotive plant and they were made as an emergency measure to arm u.s troops in WW1.If you google "sporterized p17 enfield" you will find the sites i got this info from and can have a look for yourself.Don't take my word as gospel this is just info i found on the web and passed along. You will also find links to various chat sites that are strictly about enfield rifles.Good luck with your search for info , hope i helped a little.Merry christmas to you and your family.

Oh i forgot the "BP", "EV", "NP" , markings are proof marks from the BSA factory not exactly sure what they mean though.
