My wife and I were heading out for supper on Friday, March 15th, when I spotted two deer near one of the local motels. Much to my surprise, one of them had a set of antlers, a two point. I thought that this seemed a little late for the bone to still be attached. Is this normal and of so how long with they keep their antlers before dropping to grow the new set?

In the past week I have seen numerous MD bucks with them still as well as 5-10 bull elk packing both sides. I just chalked it up to them dropping later than others, as like you I assumed that most should have dropped by now.

Im hearing from many that this is not so unusual. Many guys have been and have seen in the past deer still packing at this time of year. I have never seen one this late before.

I just thought it was strange as we should start to see new growth probably in about a month.

Rancher Down-Island phoned about a week ago. Even though he really has but a bare grasp of decent bucks, the only words he could stammer out for a couple minutes was BIG... uhhh. Big BIG! LOL!
Same one we saw a couple times this year I believe, and still packin'.
Called last night - "Horns" are gone.
Good. Go FIND them!
Now a Man With a mission!

I have seen MD with antlers on mid April.
I even heard of one occasion of a buck with "last years" antlers on in May.

I saw a 4 point whitetail last week while hiking behind my house.
