My wife took double bed sheets, folded them in half and sewed up the sides for mine.

Bed sheets work well been using them for years, just fold over and sew up the side and one end and you get a nice big bag.

Deluxe Wall Tent a big sponsor of this site makes some canvas ones I'd like to try myself. $30 for a moose/elk hind quarter size and $40 whole deer size. More money then old bed sheets but I bet they would last a lot longer.

Industrial laundry bags work well and can be found fairly cheap if you look around.

Old pillow cases work great for deer quarters, too.

Go to MEC and buy storage sacks for sleeping bags. They easily fit quarters, have drawstrings, and are cheap.

Value village or Sally anne. A good wash with bleach, and you are good to go.

Try googling industrial laundry bags or try ebay. You can find cotton, poly or nylon. I think ours are 30X40. They easily swallow an elk quarter, clean up easily and have a drawstring closure.

Another vote for bed sheet and pillow cases.

after thinking about the bed sheet idea im not so sure with using with pack horses i dont want them to catch on a tree and rip easily..thinking about the laundry bags pretty seriously but im unsure what they should be made out of for the best durability and breathing. ive found bags made of cotton duck, nylon, poly cotton and spun polyester. ideas what ones the best anybody?

I'm pretty sure the ones we use are nylon. They are pretty tough and clean easily. As far as breathing goes Kifaru describes their meat bags($$$$) as waterproof, so they can't be super super breathable and they seem to work for folks. We've never had a problem with the laundry bags.

Second vote for tag bags. Expensive but tough and should last.

I too use old bed sheets. If you are worried about the durability you could just double up the bed sheets...

My buddy got some made at the local fabric store of heavy duty cotton. They work great, breathe, and wash easily. Don't remember the exact price but they will last a long time.

Kifaru and TAGs make some good ones if you are wanting to buy some. http://www.rokslide.com/store/product/92-rokslide-backcountry-kill-kit I was looking at this as it seems really lite and compact. Just seeing if its worth it or if there is other things I could spend my money on and make shift my own.

I made my own out of bed sheets. They work well. For most hunts, they are durable and last a long time. The one disadvantage is they weigh quite a bit more than some synthetic products out there.

For mountain hunts backpacking I recently went to TAG's bags. Have yet to use them, but they are ultra-light, small, and seem to be very tough.

Direct from the maker Larry Bartlett's company. Still pricey with shipping, but hopefully washable and re-useable as claimed.

Another vote for bed sheets sewn into bags. Been using them for at least 40 years. Used sheets from Sally Ann or Value Village can be bought cheaply.

I have these, I got the regular weight ones and my partner has the light weight ones.! Very strong bags, dry quickly.
cheese cloth bags are a no no for me because flies will blow right through them and you'll end up having to clean off mass amounts of eggs later!
Buggers can't get through a tag bag however!

make nice with the wife or mother in law and she might head down to the fabric store pick up some canvas and sew you some nice double or triple stitched bags any size you want with any gauge draw string she so desires :)

I used TAG bags this year. They really dry fast and are tough. I washed them in the river and they were dry in about 2 hours hanging in the wind, and the blood came totally out. When my son got a small mule deer, a single bag was big enough for the whole deer with legs cut off. Pricey but pretty neat.
