Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone out there knows if there are any good camp spots with a boat launch open first week of MAY that would be close to decent fishing in Kinbasket?

We were thinking Sprague but found out there is too much snow and we won't be able to get there that time of year!!

Whoops.....we are scrambling now and hopefully someone can help me out.

Thanks in advance.

Call Downey forest products, they can probably help.

Someone at the Mica camp might be able to help you out as well.

surely you can camp right by the dam.
there's a road just onto the gravel tghat goes down to the lake.
not the nicest spot to camp, but it gets you on the lake.

if that areas a no-go because of snow, you'd have to be looking at the golden end or the valemount end.
like others have said, i'd call mica and as.

you could stop and fish revelstoke lake instead.

Hey guys, thanks!

No I have never been, but the guy planning the trip for our group has ran it a lot in the fall..........

His intel is saying no go on Sprague that early.......but if we can at least fall back and fish/camp near the dam we should be ok to plan for that.

Is there decent fishing in Revy Lake? gotta be camping south of the dam as well.........

I'm a newbie for sure when it comes to this body of water.

that's good that hes familiar with it.
it can be a dangerous lake.

i'd think for sure you'll be able to get down the road, at least to one of the first couple spots there are to launch and camp.
if not right to sprague itself.

revy can be good.
i've done alright in there.
and it's a beautiful lake as well with endless areas to camp and launch from.
public campground areas and more private, secluded areas.

i'm trying to add some pics for you, but photobucket is freezing up again.

We've caped at red rocks quite a few times and have always made it in. Lots of pull outs on Revelstoke lake and camp spots but the fishing seems to be a bit more spotty. Be sure to send an email before you head up as we'll be spending a fair bit of time up there apr/may chasing critters around.

The first camping spot just past mica dam (PotLatch) is very nice but the boat launch is just gravel and when the lake is low could be a bit tough depending on how heavy your boat is . Its not alot farther to sprague where there is a nice concrete launch . IF by chance there is still snow to prevent getting in there , there are lots of spots along lake revelstoke , nice launch at the old park site at Downie and the fishing is pretty good there as well.

if you are lucky, you'll get it on a day like this.

very true.
i've done well for bulls in the downie arm.
and have caught bulls, bows, and kokanee all on the same lure down by carnes creek area.
but ya, overall, it's much slower.
it is very popular with people going there just to target kokanee though.
but i sure as shit don't travel that far to fish for wee stinkin' kokanee.

I've fished out of Sprague many years.. I usually go for May Long and can get in. As mentioned above the rec site just past the dam is ok, and then launch on the gravel road Duallie mentioned. We launched a 17ft campion at that site in low water. I find the Bull Trout better in April, and then the Rainbow Kok's better in later part of May. Have fished Revy lake as well, and did quite well, just no big ones! Be careful in the afternoon if you have to cross the Lake, the wind can come up quickly, and if it does, your better to wait it out and come back in the evening. We usually just fished Molson Creek up the wood arm. I worked on the cut blocks in the background of Duallies pic's.... Thats where Mica Lodge is built. Very beautiful area, and not too many other people... Hope to make a trip that way for May Long... Spraque Bay. You can catch some nice ling from shore that time of year. And they are great eating! Good Luck and enjoy your trip!

He's not kidding. That can be one the most dangerous chunks of fresh water in this province. Enough to fill your pants.

Nice country up there for sure. Not exactly "game rich" but it's certanly worth visiting at least once in your lifetime.

Fishing is good although the kokannee are a lot bigger behind revy damn.

I'm sure the bou eventually ended up as wolf scat.

Not sure if that's a lyman or a mac? Dad had an old wood plug that he repainted that was his favorite. Some big fish ended up with it sticking in his lip heading for Valemount.

Bud-Yes. That's a hunk of wood that was used to help hold the motor up. Dad forgot the net that day so I leaned over and shoved the sharp end of the stick under the gill plate and hoisted him aboard. Worked great! I think that's why Dad had an extra big smile in that picture as he hates losing big fish like that.:-D
