550 paracord is pretty neat stuff,it can support an awesome amount of weight for it's small diameter and light weight.
It is made up of seven strands of two strand braid and can be taken down and used as twine seven times it's original length.

In a survival situation it could come in quite handy.

Lots of people make bracelets and lanyards etc.
You can make dog leashes, rifle straps, belts, knife handles, floggers, whatever you can think of.

The idea though is to make things that can be used in an ordinary outdoor activity but can be unwound in a survival or emergency situation.

Here is a bracelet/lanyard I made that uses 25 feet of cord.
I used black and orange and it gives a reverse effect in the weave.

My wife laughs at me for making 'friendship' bracelets hahaha........Is it Mulie season yet?

Here is a Rifle sling

Depending on how long your sling is and how you weave it you can get a couple hundred feet of cord into a sling, could come in pretty handy on a sheep hunt.

Anybody else play with this stuff??

I just picked up a few hundred feet of 550 and a few hundred feet of paracord for the same reason. There are some cool things you can do with paracord and having a few extra lengths of strong rope handy can save a life when out in the bush.

That, and I find the process of weaving the braid/lanyard while watching TV to be very relaxing

You can get 2lb rolls of seine twine in several diameters and colors
#18, #21 #30 are the more common sizes
talk to Mark at Mark@redden-net.com or 604-274-1422 (tel:604-274-1422)

He can also make up tow ropes for trucks which is handy.

It is awesome stuff, I have various pieces stashed away in my packs and outdoor gear. I always have a 1000 yard spool on hand to utilize as needed, inexpensive cord that is nice to use. Another type that takes up less space and is useful as well is tarred bank line, holds knots well and is plenty strong for lashing shelter poles and the like.

Yes tarred twine or mending twine is awesome for lashing stuff.

Which brands float, and which ones sink?

It's the material they're made which decides the flotation value
nylon and polyester sink
Poly products like polypropelene and polyethalene(spectra) float

I have a belt made of the good stuff.
Its not all created equal either.
The white stuff Coglans sells is cheap crapola

Once had an ex-s.e.a.l. demonstrated how he could build prussicks and then climb some 550 cord. Tough stuff.

Lots to choose from on E-bay.
Army surplus type stores usually have lots too.
