For those that know, why is there two different requirements in two areas of the same unit ?
I am curious as to what one or the other prevents or is better over one area to the next and why.
I assume the mature requirement is to avoid short sheep a BIT better but to me, it makes no sense why they would implement it in one area when right next door it is not the same.
Thanks.

Mature bighorns covers the areas where the rockies are and full curl covers the area where the calis are.

In the reg.3 regs it shows both in 3-17. The northern half is full curl, lower, mature.

The Spences' rockies have been known to rech full curl status by the age of 3. Going to mature bighorn regulations(bridge of the nose) buys them a little more time to broom.

They both are about the same and I would bet the Mature side is easier. The country is far more open and seeing sheep is definately easier because you can spot from the highway. That being said when you spot something you have to deal with the other 5 guys that have also spotted it and how to get across the river.

The full curl is not as wide open hence spotting is tougher. Also the road is right against the hill, so very little spotting is done from the vehicle. Have to hike right away and then may be only able to glass a small area. Also little access into the drainages. That being said you will probably not see another hunter and possibly no sheep.

So pick your poison.

Any idea of how many sheep are taken per year there between the two spots ?
