Hey Fellas...I'm new to the site, got sucked in by 300H&H on another forum...very cool stuff in here.

I need some help.. the flatlanders, are making the trek to Cranbrook to hunt cougars in mid January. A friend of a friend is taking us, with the goal of making a great video...

The jig is, we have never hunter anything in the mountains, and this will all be brand new..

ANY TIPS WOULD BE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!!

Wear Good Boots for a start, have fun cat hunting is very exciting and lots of hard work, but once you hear those Hounds Baying its enough to raise the hair on the back of your neck.

Good Luck!!!

start doing the stairmaster thing now . run stairs two at a time. the better your condition and the easier it is for you to deall with the altitude the more you will enjoy a hunt .

Stand on a steep slope to make sure your toes don't hit inside of your boot. Sore toes suck. Trim your toenails. Practise walking down hill, it will kill your knees.

Hey Im glad you made it here. This site has a great bunch of people here. Enjoy. What you need to do for cat hunting in Jan. is to get a good pair of boots and start walking to here so your legs can get use to going up & down hills & mountains. But most of all have fun & take lots of pics.

If you start a track with dogs on leash, be the guy holding on going UP the hill... pass the dog off quickly if you start going down the hill. :)

Does a guy need snowshoes?

With all the snow we are getting, a pair of snowshoes might be needed.

As far as stories, the first cat hunt I went on we finally treed the cat after a very long chase, I tied up the dogs and my bro in-law got ready to shoot. After the first shot, the cat was mortally wounded, it jumped out of the tree right at my bro in-law. He shot again from the hip, the cat was maybe 8-9 feet away. That one turned him around and another shot finally finished him off. That cat weighed about 150lbs.

I would count on waist deep snow. if its not great! i live in kelowna and we've been getting tons of snow this year! i can imagine the koots have more, then go up the mountain and hello snow, mind you the cougars will be where the deer are and they will be low, in as little snow as possible!
