Not sure what section to put this in so will start here. While checking the trap line on Sun. Feb 17 my 22-250 rifle & scope (in a hard shell case) fell out of the skimmer being pulled by snowmobile, in the area of Gregg Creek fsr km 12- km 24 & side roads. I never noticed it until getting back to truck( km 7)we back tracked every inch 3 times but could not find it. There was only 1 other pickup that far up not sure if they found it or not. If found pls. call 250-962-5484 REWARD offered. (west of Prince george 20 km):(

I wish you good luck getting it back. Hopefully who ever found it is a member here and will get it back to you.

I bet a hard case could slide a long way off the trail down and hill and under dale, bet its still out there. Bummer.

Ya no kidding, would slide really good on the trail, then torpedo under the soft stuff.

If you haven't already, report it the RCMP. Yeah it's embarrassing but I think you are legally required to report a lost or stolen firearm. As well, if anyone finds it and wants to return ti, the RCMp is where they will go.

Yeah reported to rcmp & CO's on monday. We specifically checked every mark in the snow thinking the same, only went up two small hills and walked them both
, there was fresh snow on fri nite so every blemish shows up. Will look more when snow starts to melt. Thanks for the hints & help.

Unfortunatly we got 10-12 inches of snow since I lost it but will get out as soon as the snow starts melting down, possable 20 km of trail to search. There is a good 3 feet of snow in that area but all is quadable once the snow recedes.

Good luck in your search. If you had a smaller search area you could rent a metal detector from a tool rental company aand try that, but a 20 km area might be a bit big to search that way

Could put up a small sign on both ends of the stretch of trail.

Simply

"If found call ########"

Don't put what you lost so they don't look too hard for it, but the finder will know right away what the sign was for.

I once lost my rifle from the back of my little Datsun pu with a few other items of hunting gear while travelling from Prince Rupert to Quesnel. I didn't realize the tarp and tie downs had loosened off in the rain and come loose until daybreak when I could see it in my rear view mirror. I found everything but my locked hard shell bow case which contained my rifle. I called the RCMP in Prince Rupert and Terrace and received a call from Terrace RCMP about an hour later, someone had found it and turned it in. So there are honest people out there and you still have a chance of getting your rifle back if someone finds it before you do!

Glad to hear there are honest people left out there and that you are getting your rifle back. I wouldn't give a gift card as the reward but cash. Let that person decide how they will spend it.

Good news I got my rifle back to-day & met with the fella that found it. He is not a hbc member but I interduced him to the site & he should be on here soon, he is a gun collector & went to a great deal of effort to find the owner. He put a ad in the citizen & got 2 calls from people that couldn't closely identify the rifle & were trying to scam him out of it. (slime balls) A real honest person and will be a welcome addition to hbc. Also thanks to all for the hints & help much appreciated.

How far off the trail did it slide? If at all.

How long after you lost it did he find it? Was it buried under the powder?

Curious is all.

Glad to hear you got it back.....good karma all around!

He found it 8 days after I lost it about 20 feet off of trail it had thawed & rained & he spotted a corner of case sticking out. The egg crate foam was damp he dried it out & cleaned the gun up even swabed the inside barrel. Didn't want any reward but I insisted. I'm sure good karma will follow him.

Fantastic! Great to hear that there are honest upstanding people still around. I just sent a terse email back to someone who had told me we could come by and select a kitten. Then, after we told our very excited 8 year-old that we'd be checking out some kittens, the guy emails me back and says, "Oh, sorry, someone else offered me more money." What happened to having a deal? I told they guy, "Sorry for my delayed response. I was just busy explaining to my daughter the ways of the world and the power of the almighty dollar."
Sorry, not wanting to hijack the thread. Great to see this thread popping back up and the great news.
