So, I'm getting tired of sleeping on my little Thermorest in the late season when its cold and I'm close to my truck. Today I stopped at the Foam Shop and they want $65 for a 72" x 27" x 3" thick camping foamy!! Where can I find something cheaper??

Ya foam is like gold, cabeloas sells sleeping mats that are great and last longer than a foamy, but are not cheaper, about 100$ but last

Get an insulated larger thermorest. Yes they are more money but way nicer then foam. I use a neo air all season and was hunting from my truck canopy last season and stayed warm. It was minus 11. Neo air all season is 25 by 78 I think, and packs down to the size of a nalgene bottle. The mattress crinkles alot due the extra heat reflective materials but has an r 4.9 value.

Army and Navy in Langley has a stack of foam sitting there. $75 rings a bell, but much larger than the one you priced out. Probably 48 inches wide.

That price is pretty good if its 2 pound foam theres hardly any mark up over cost at all.

I'd almost give Slurpie Herpies in Kamloops,Kelowna or Williams Lake a call... can't remember what they want. Worth a shot.

Don't know why I know this or remembered this. But about 3 years ago my grandma bought a piece of 14x14x8" foam square at a garage sale for a $1.50. If she bought it, it was obviously a bargin.

You mean Vernon, not Kelowna. Surplus Herbies, the craziest store in town. I bet Jelly runs the kammy location, he's not your average dummy.:-D

A camp cot,a 2 inch thermarest and a good sleeping bag. I've been toasty warm right into Nov. Air mattresses aren't worth the time it takes to inflate them.

The plain kind from the Foam Shop, why so expensive? Hard to make, expensive materials...I don't get it.

Oh yeah, Vernon.... Any time I go to Vernon/Kelowna... it's always a blur and I have to walk too much

I know you're looking for a cheap solution, Mike....but take a look at an Exped Downmat 7(or 9 for late season stuff) UL. Check them out. You won't be disappointed. The ULs are a lot lighter than the the regular models. Can't see the regular models lasting on the market.

I agree with SSS.....if a fatass foamy is gonna cost you nearly 100 bucks then spend a bit more and go with a Downmat. Then you have a backpack anyseason mattress. I have one and it is great.

I git a nice thick foamy form the foam shop that fits on my Cabelas uber big outfitter cot. I think it was $150 and worth it. It's at least 3" thick and it feels like you are on a nice bed. Wouldn't take it anywhere in a backpack, but in a wall tent it's ultimate comfort.

Thats what we all use and they are incredibly comfortable. I have my best sleeps while out hunting but why the hell is the foam so expensive?

I bought a 3" thick foamy from Canadian Tire for $50. I think it's about 4'x6'.

Watch the local e-ads. we picked up 2 queen 8" foam bed mattres free, take the cover off cut to size with an electric carving knife we ended up with 2- 4" cot mattress and 1 8" for the bed of the P/U cut to fit around the wheel wells for just a bit of work cant beat the quality or the price. splitting the 8" to 2 4"ers was fiddely but came out fine with a little patience

Thanks for the replies fellas., some good ideas here. Luckily a member offered mats for the cost of beer at WSS, I'm a little nervous he lured me in and is a heavyweight but I'm expecting to come out ahead! You can't argue the comfort of a foamy!
A friend bought an expedite down mat so we'll see how it works for him. Thanks again.

I was pretty shocked when I got the price, too. But what I didn't really know was that there is a wide disparity of quality with foam. The cheap stuff is much less dense, much less support. The foamy I got from the foam shop is very good quality, you could tell right away that it wasn't like some green foamy from the 1970's. :)

I am sure that those that have access to foam can get better deals, but I don't regret the purchase at all. :)

If you are ever in Kelowna go to AG Superstore.
They have a great selection of "outdoor stuff".

I bought one of these a few years ago (bought at Costco but Similar). It's 4 inches thick and it folds up for transporting. I paid about $45 for it at Costco. Way better then just a piece of foam from a foam shop.
