I know Bridge Lake is still frozen but wanted to know if anyone has had consistant success in catching Kokanee there? I have tried a few times with no success and wanted to see if I was doing something wrong. I have tried a willow leaf with a red wedding band and a worm and had a few hits but nothing consistant. Any help would be appreciated.

My folks have a place on Deka and have heard stories of people fishing all the kokanee out of those two lakes during ice fishing time. We were on Sulphorous and using a spinner with a pink blade fashioned after a mepps spinner and did ok but wouldn't say we were slaying we washed alot of gear that week with some success but not tonnes. I think there has been alot of pressure on these fish in recent years up there.

I LIVE right on Bridge lake and the fishing for Kokanee has being VERY POOR in the last 2 years - 3 years ago a estimated 8000 + Kokanee were caught and since then the fishing has drastically declined here ! I think we need more restocking and less fishing pressure - maybe limit the ICE fishing to only 1 month or so - Also the limit of 5 per day to 2 per day ? I really have no answers as i am not a Bioligist BUT they don't seem to know either ! RJ

Same thing happened in the UK a few years ago...the scientists that made the first study were funded by the Forestry Industry (who had been blamed for the destruction of spawning grounds by heavy pollution from poor management practices) and concluded there was nothing to blame for the lake of fish.
Independant scientific study was conducted after a public outcry and they concluded that without doubt, the reason was due to a list of poor conservation standards breaches by the Forestry Industry (owners or workers I'm unsure)

With Timber being the largest industry here I'd start looking in that direction.

look at the stocking reports 8000 fish in 2-3 years is nothing compared to what they are putting in.

not to sure but i m sure that the numbers have to be high enough to sustain 8000 in 2-3 years

8000 +++ Mature Fish Caught in less then 1 year is a HUGH over Harvest in this Lake and it is one of the best Kokanee Lakes in BC ! RJ
