Legal or not?

Not legal.
Trapping it is considered by-catch and is reported.

Not a fur bearer , so not legal to trap.
Incidental catches do happen and have to be reported to a c/o

As stated above trying to trap cougar is a no no in BC.

Oh come on. It was probably the only stuff the guy had laying around to string it up with.

For incidental catches where there is no trapping season you have to phone them in and fill out a form. After that you will need to turn them over to the MOE.

Are cougs inspected for wire necktie marks if submitted on a license and tag and have a bullet hole in them ?

Never seen it on the inspections I've been involved in, but if one was gonna try playing that game, he'd be a fool....

I caught one a few yrs ago. They sure dont struggle much comapred to wolves/cyote's. Bugger was just layin there beside the choked tree , tight under his chin , no twisting of the snare wire.
Met CO in Whistler , filled out papers , he then had to go give it to the Mtn Currie band. Wasnt the most pleasant scented gift , guessing it went straight to a bin.I took lots of pics , maybe I'll dig em up later.

There is a new program with the BCTA where trappers who incidentally catch a cougar can legally donate the animal, which is then auctioned off with proceeds going towards trapper education. Too many guys just kicking them down the bank. Waste of resources!

I knew the BCTA was working on this but did not hear it was finalized yet.

I only knew incidental fur bearers were cleared for this.

I didn't think you could do that...every time I've harvested a cougar it's been by chatting her up and maybe buying her a drink or two.:-)

...he then had to go give it to the Mtn Currie band....

That's the most pathetic part.

I think once the loop is released it "should" fall off fairly easilly....hopefully.

It should fall off soon enough, depending on the condition of the pole , may take longer if the lock or cable is fubar'd

I didn't think you could do thatStroll into a pub with a snare pole , and your intentions are clear , not like those cowards that use roofies.

A little more a stake too, from a health standpoint......:-D

Haven't seen many agitated cougars up close, but that one seemed fairly tolerant. Some of the bobcats I've trapped had growls way louder than what their body size would indicate.

Wow that pole is way shorter than I would want if I was that guy. Ditto the wirecutters... "hey man don't worry about it just reach right in there!"... hehehehh crapmypantsworthy.

Like RiverOtter said, that kitty seems less pissed than I would have expected though.
