I bought one last summer (2012) and thus far have nothing to complain about. It is easy to use and seems to be fairly reliable. I have nowhere near tapped into the capability of it, but like what I see. I got the backroad BC sd card, which is a nice feature.

Like anything that takes batteries it will be obsolete in about five or ten years.... Having said that my compass still comes with me on all trips.

I used a friends Garmin 62S last year and it worked great. I was most impressed at how it picked up satellites and heavy tree cover which was very helpful. I just got the Cabelas sale flyer and the Garmin 62ST is on sale for $400.00, which is a $70.00 savings. I got a Garmin Etrx 30 GPS for Christmas and I really like it also. A bit less expensive than the 62S but it seems to do everything I need out of a GPS.

The garmin 62st is a waste of money. Get a 62s and load it with backroad maps. Way better that garmins topo

I've had the Garmin 60csx since 2007 and it's worked perfectly for me...the 62 is the successor, should be great!
I use lithium batteries in mine and run it off the 12 volt power when on the quad...no issues.

I got one about a year ago and use it every day for work in the bush. It is by far the best GPS so far, although for the money the 60's were pretty darn good in their time. What I like the best is the power save mode. I have it set to shut the screen off about 20 seconds after inactivity. It saves a tonne of batteries, and is still running in the background so there is no start-up time. The only thing I don't like about it is turning tracks on and off seems to be a bit of a pain in the butt. It is do-able, but on a different menu than previous Garmin products.

Oh yeah, and I've never had a GPS pick up satellites as well as the 62S. It's darn near as accurate as my Trimble $10,000 GPS unit.

I just got a 62S and am impressed with ease of use and how quickly it grabs satellites. Plan to add BC Backroad Map.

Thanks Ufish, sounds like I'll be getting the 62 if the 60 dies...or 64, or 66, or whatever is current when the 60 eventually croaks! :-D

i got one with the backroads micro card and i can not tell you how valuble it was when i went guiding in 2011 in a completly new area to me. it gave me more confidence to go where i had never been before and to come out in the dark in the same foot steps i went in on ,in grizzly country with a 7 and a half footer on my back.
absolutley hands down the best hunting investment i've made for alonggggg time.
