Exceptional pictures, Dana! Is that the bull you previously thought had been killed by wolves? He's sure an impressive beast now. Thanks for sharing.

Yea I was told he had been killed by a pack of wolves in the fall of 2011. A good number of bulls were lion/wolf killed that year, so I didn't doubt it. I guess you can't believe every rumour you hear eh? I hadn't seen him since New Year's Eve 2010, so I was quite happy to see him again this winter. I have taken photos of him 4 out of the last 6 years. He has got to be gettin' up there in age. I'm thinking he's 9+ years old now.

This bull lives in Region 3 which has no elk seasons. It is a very small herd that has been struggling lately due to wolf and cougar pressure.

Nice pics Dana. Hope the herd recovers from the wolf kill. Our Princeton herds have done well, but we too have wolves moving in. Shoot, shovel, and shut up time if they ever protect the wolves like they did on the Island.

Hope he makes it to next season to breed some more.

That's awesome that he's still kicking... Hopefully he spread some wild wild oats this season and keeps those genetics going strong! Must be cool to 'know' an old timer like that in your area! Have you ever done any shed hunting in his area?

My son and his dog found one shed off of the Big 7 in the spring of 2010. I've been told another local found the match the next day.

It ain't the wolves he has to worry about. A big tom lion killed several of his buddies a few winters ago only to have his kills stolen by wolves.
