Thx for the links, they had some good training sessions in there that i think i'll try out. I think this elk shed was just beginners luck for my little springer....haha

I found it's easiest on horseback. Up high following the same trails the animals follow.

Not realistic for most people, but if you have the chance to, try it.

i've never had much luck shed hunting.
i've found an elk shed but it was while hunting.
and a monster whitey shed, but it was while scouting.

No but what they are saying about how to shed hunt would be the same way to do the shed hunting here in BC..

My success is on south facing slopes first. Then high ridges.
The biggest bucks (mulies in this case) tend to stay higher and drop later.
Just my experience, and there are always exceptions to every rule.

Look right in the brush, buck brush and snow brush........ some antler fall while the buck is browsing right in the brush. Go high, higher than you think you have to. Old, old burns on the right aspect with trees present for snow interception. Perfect

You are right this is how I found my first fresh 5 point mule shed the antler was stuck into the buck brush..
