Am going to Veradero next month and I'm looking for any recommendations on charters for tarpon and/or barracuda. Can anyone help?

hey, thanks for all the tips - though, I'm sure that the photos they'll help me get will be more suited to the "Female Appreciation" thread. How about some fishing ideas?

I've been looking into this same question as I'm heading there in March. It seems, as far as fishing in Cuba goes, Varadero is pretty lacking. Hopefully someone has some helpful insight to share!

I believe the best fishing is to the south of the island.

Here is a link to some good sites. http://www.gocubafishing.com/fishing-sites.aspx

I spent my honeymoon there this past Aug. Fishing is pretty lax. and expensive, unlike Mexico you cant just go to the marina and get someone to take you out. I was looking at 500-600 per day. also the fishing isnt very good. South of Veradero if you can get there is a marine reserve that you can bone and tarpon fish and its really good. I did pack my fly rod around on the beach, if its calm enough first thing in the am you can spot/ cast to Cudas and bones, caught a few. if you dont fly fish bring along a collapsable rod and take some shrimp from the buffet, any rocky parts of the beach will hold fish.

I fished in Belize two years ago and am headed to Cuba for March. I'll pack a fly rod and try whereever I am.

Belize beach shallow water held a small 'cuda but did not have a steel leader so lost it. Fished for bones twice; hooked 6 and landed four from one school but could not catch one from the second school, pretty finicky fish. Tried for Permit one day but tides were not right so did not see any; all sight fishing.

PM me an e-mail and I'll send a picture of the flys I tied and what worked on bone fish.

We also hand line fished for cuda's (and others that I can't remember the names) and caught up to 42 inchers; good fun and good eats!

I we been there in November. Fishing was cool , got 12 fish in 3 Hours , got to take a break , 2 Dorado double header in 1 Hour. Go to Marina , ask for the trip in there , if you go with hotel rep. he is gonna make just a call and that is it. Dont have big hopes for Marlin , Captain told me they got 5 with 8 boats in 10 years so the chance is pretty low. We didnt try for tarpoon and neither for Marlin. One in shalow water other one 2 hours of shore. Shame they dont wanna do catch and release , would be much more to remember for more people..
Good luck!
