I shoot 2-3 times a month at the range, and was thinking about buying a cheap $200 Tasco spotting scope from London Drugs. It will probably never get used for anything else. Any thoughts?

Costco has them cheap time to time, can take it back there if it sucks. Maybe London drugs too.

Honestly, for $200, I'd sniff around for a used B&L/Bushy Elite 15-45x60 and have something you could actually use and see stuff with...

whole point of looking through a spotting scope is to see stuff better, right? I wouldn't waste $200 on a piece of shit on something you won't want to use because it's blurry and hard on the eyes. I'd look to spend $400 on a Vortex Diamondback spotter or $600 on a Viper, you'll actually enjoy using. Low end optics are a very poor investment IMO

I've got a Vanguard, Signature Plus 661 15x45.Never being used, you get to mark it up first! Should work for seeing where your hitting at the range. Still has the price tag on it, 483.99, comes with a real nice locking black and chrome case, also has a soft case for back packing, has a real nice small tripod too. 300.00 firm, if you want me to send you a photo, E-mail me at marvdean@lakecable.tv

Spotting scopes that are decent are going to cost more than $200 new...look at a decent second hand one!

I have a vortex impact
20-60x80mm with a soft case
I bought it for the same reason you were thinking about. If you re interested let me know.
If you want something to count points on a buck at 700 yards it is worth looking into a scope worth a bit more.
