Just wondered how many people hunt Turkeys with a .22. Going to try hunting them for the first time in the spring and just was looking for any input as to how many are or arent hunting them with a .22 and why.

Thanks all.

Oh and any tips you al can give would be great. It will be our first time going. We will be in the Rock creek Christina lake area and could use some help on the area.

My best recommendation....use a shotgun.

Unless you have a very accurate .22, that is capable of head/neck shots out to 50 yards, I would recommend a shotgun. Those birds can soak up a lot of lead and still fly away...

I was planning on taking a shotgun but just was curious if it was a somewhat commmon way to hunt out to longer distances with a .22.

Really looking forward to going and giving it a shot. I think it will be a welcome new challenge to try and get what seem to be a smart and cagey animal.

Wife is reallly gonna love my serenade with the box call as I practice!!!

Given the fact that a 12 gauge shotgun -properly patterned at the range - and a .22 have about the same effective range and factor in that turkeys have a very small vital area, I would choose a shotgun over a .22 any time.

Before you can shoot a turkey you've to find them and get close to one. Learn as much as you can about turkey behaviour and their daily routines and practice calling every day. Make sure you get the calling right as a turkey can tell the difference between what almost sounds like a turkey and the real thing. Good luck.
