Normally use Eagle Claw or Gamagatsu (sp?) hooks for my saltwater gear, but picked up some Matzuo #4's to retie some hootchies and replace a couple spoons. Anyone have experience with them? Seems to be a decent hook and are nice and sharp (they pierce skin quite well!!), but am wondering how well they'll hold up?

Also, what are your favorite brands/sizes for salmon?

Google the "Owner" brand. Very nice and sharp as heck!

You should be seeing MAtzu hooks more and more. They were originally only in wally world, crappy tire etc... but your local tackle shops should be having them in stock allready if not very soon.

Haven't tried them myself yet. If you're pulling cut plugs you should keep your eye out for the Claw hook from Oki Tackle... shold start seeing those pretty quick here

and x4 for owners a little more money than gammys but worth it.

Have never seen (or even heard of) Owner hooks, but had a look on the site and can't see any local dealers. Are they available here on the island, or do you guys mail order them? I have no problem paying a little extra for quality gear, especially hooks and bullets.

NIKKA. They usually have a sale in Jan-Feb, good time to buy.

VMC hooks. Steel, never lose their edge. Best hooks I've ever used.

Definately NOT impressed with the Matzuo's!! Maybe I just got a bad batch, but they have some of the roughest eyes I've ever seen. Should have looked a little closer at them and glad I only bought 3 small packs. Tied up a couple doubles and cut the leader (25lb) just tightening the knot. Should be ok for tying singles, just not around the shank.
Will look into the Owners or maybe just restock the Eagles and Gammy's. Thanks for the info so far. :)

I like Owner Aki hooks for saltwater-one of best hooks out there-I use for Sturgeon/Tarpon/Marlin/Sailfish.Not cheap but sharper than Gamakatsu and will never break.
