I've had one in Alberta....

It was a successful hunt, meat was excellent. I cant say I tried to judge a 'trophy' ewe, I actually shot a younger one on a day hunt and was happy with the experience.

Cant say I'd shoot a whole bunch more of them, but it was a cool hunt to do once while in Alberta.

Have looked at sheep for about 15 years , and often savoured the thought of a lamb or ewe on a spit , but have only found leftovers on the mountainsides.
Would take a tag anyday.

Not on LEH, but on an Alberta Special Licence.... I've taken several over the years, and will continue to draw the tag as often as possible.

Besides being a fun hunt, with incredible meat as a reward, there are significant benefits to some sheep populations in having a ewe harvest. Bighorn sheep ewes produce more and healthier offspring in their early years. Keeping the ewe population young helps increase the vitality of the population.

I have taken a ewe in the Kootenays when there was leh tags available. This is going back a few years now. Shot it a few K's out of Radium. That leh was removed the following year I drew. The meat was good. To me it tasted similar to domestic sheep but of course much leaner. Cant compare the meat to a ram because I have never shot or tasted the meat from a ram. If I had the oportunity to do it again I would.
