I have always been a Leupold fan but would like to hear others opinions on Vortex Optics particularly scopes. Are you happy with the actual optics and what about the durability
warranty etc

You'd do far better if you posted your question here and not in the for sale section LOL

I have two vortex scopes (diamondbacks), one on a 22-250 and the other on a 30-06. I was comparing them to bushnell 3200 and found the bushnell to have a yellow tinge to them and the vortex glass was clear and brighter.

I have Vortex binos and scope and love them. Lost a turret off my scope and emailed them and in less than a week had a new one.. Great glass for the money.

My experience wiht Vortex comes from only 2 scopes. One is mounted on my buddy's 223 and he other is on my LRP 260. I can't give an honest evaluation of either just yet, but preliminary examination suggest I'd have a Vortex before Bushnell.

Buy blurtex for the warranty.. You WILL use it.

Or.. buy Leupold, with just as good a warranty, and enjoy the fact your optics will never fail you.

The bushnell 3200 3-9x40 I had never lost zero on a 338 win mag, although not the brightest picture it still never failed. The clear glass of a vortex viper 3-9x40 only sits on my son's 17HMR because it could not hold zero on a 7 rem mag or 30-06, so it got put on the 17 (works great with no recoil). Good warranty or not, it sucks to have to use the warranty. I have the vortex viper bino's, they are clear and reliable. If they had a reticle I bet they wouldn't hold zero either. Vortex has a good warranty, its up to you if you want to save your money for something better or buy something now cause you can't wait. After that issue I saved my money and bought a leupold, next is another leupy or a swaro z3 for my newest gun. Its cheaper to buy the more expensive optic once than it is to buy 2 or 3 $hitty ones.

I have a vortex viper scopes and Leup VX3s as well. Both are very good and hard to tell the difference. The Leup windage and elevation adjustments are a little more crisp and have the definite "click" when you are adjusting. Vortex's warranty is unbelievable. The big three have had to increase their warranty to keep pace. Vortex is selling a ton of optics in North America. Both are very good. I would stick with Vortex's higher end Viper and Razor lines though.

I have the Diamondback binos and Viper HS-LR scope sat on a .30-06. I love them both and following a self-inflicted brain-fart on the Viper, I had to use the warranty which was absolutely awesome; made me a Vortex customer for life. I'll be buying the Viper binos and spotting scope this year.

When comparing warranty, bear in mind that Vortex have a 'point of sale' warranty; take the damaged or faulty product into any retailer and if they have the same item on the shelf, exchange it for the new product, no questions asked and no receipt needed. You only need to return it to Vortex themselves if you can't find a retailer with one on the shelf.

Thats new to me. Vortex told me i had to send it to them

Tripitaka

I can't just remember where I picked up on this - may have been paperwork included in my scope or dealings with Vortex themselves. It was certainly an option that was given to me but was unavailable because no-one had a replacement Viper HS-LR 4-16x50 sat on a shelf. If I find where I got that info, I'll post it up here.

as for their warranty, it is potentially over the counter at the dealers discretion. Just because they have one in store they dont have to give it to them.

Sold 200 Vortex scopes last year and had 4 come back with issues, all replaced promptly from Vortex. Easily sent that many or more of Leupolds in, turnaround time is also good. Leupold riflescopes Ive owned personally have had a few issues, they're not perfect. Nobody's optics are, had to send back a $2500 Swarvo z6 that had a faulty adjustment turret right out of the box. Swarvo fixed scope promptly btw

I have two Vortex Viper rifle scopes. 1, a 3-9X40 sitting on a 30-06. 2, a 2-7X33 sitting on a 375 Ruger. Optics are comparable to my Leupold VX lll 3.5-10X40. No issues with holding zero on either rifle. No need to test the warranty yet.

I'm pretty sure RiverOtters comments and opinion mirror many guys here when it comes to bushnell "optics".

However, hang up some pics of your "bushnell sponsered trophy case", I know I would like to see all your trophies taken with bushnell optics.

I have a 1100 yard range at the cabin ,I will take on your bushnell scope . For me I will use a 22 year old 3+9 leupold setting on a 24year old 300 wm .For me the scope is a very small part of long range shooting.Knowing your gun ,the elements ,your breathing play a much larger part . But back to the origial question ,I have used almost every type of optics sold to the public (and a few not )and bang for you buck Vortex are right at the top of my list

does this statement only apply to scopes? wondering because I bought a new lighter pair of bushnell binos for guiding and a new rangefinder as well and the binos went back as soon as i got back from 35 days of hunting, the rangefinder works well but is hanging up as i have a vortex ranger 1000 now and vortex viper binos....only been a few months and havent had problems with it. I also sent a leupold spotting scope back after 3 months and a vortex scope after 2 years. Every company will have issues imo and some will excel past others in every category.

I have sent several Bushnell scopes, one pair of Binos and at least 1 (maybe 2?) LRF's in for warranty. They all took a long time, but mostly the stuff was just replaced, not repaired.

I have a vortex diamondback 3.5x10x50 on my .308 and im pretty happy with it. Lost its zero due to a fairly good spill i took so i hope thats not a sign of things to come. No harm done though its back to clover leafs again fortunately. Im always breaking the lens caps off it though because i open them when i get back in the truck cause it will fog if theyre left closed with moisture in there. Im not sure if bushnell or leupy's anti fog can prevent this sort of fog issue??

Nope, everything fogs from extreme cold to warm temp shifts...
