Got into the small geese today. Lessers, cacklers and a first for us, some home grown specklebellies.

A few big mallards and a very small goose.

Was a great day in the field, nice to put some specks on the ground as well for the first time on the Island for me. Heading to the BBQ to do up some goose breast with IanF's special blend of seasoning and spice.

Not sure how you define "home-grown" but most specks nest in Alaska and the Arctic...:)

I think he was referring to being able to shoot them here, an not have to travel to the prairies to get into them legally.

You mean the cool dude with his hat on backwards:cool: I had just finished taking pictures myself when I got into the picture hence why the hat was on backwards and I was trying to hide the camera, which looking back now realize it probably would have been better to just leave it hanging out front.

Well, it was a good "no arms" picture. As you can tell, I found it amusing.:)

Just meant hunting at home. We travelled to northern Alberta this year largely to get a shot at some specks.
Been waterfowling on the Island for over thirty years, including back when specks were open season, but this is the first time we ever got into them.

The ones we got here only had a few spots on there chests, some of the prairie ones had black bars . Was wondering if that is just age or if they are slightly different birds?

Age. Specks don't get thier bars until they reach adult hood. How long that takes I don't know.
