Christmas in Chemainus usually means a hunt with some friends i've made through HBC, and this year was no different. The hope and the plan was for some geese and ducks if they were around.

As is too often the birds didn't get the right memo and it was the ducks the cooperated and the geese that snubbed us unceremoniously.

A great day out though nonetheless.

They hate a robo, but love 2 or 3 of them

Ive had the same problem. I can't decoy a widgeon for the life of me. I think they might get scared like geese do.

I believe First Nations call them the brain surgeons of the air. Widgeon are so tricky sometimes.

Ian, save me a fat widgeon for the deep frier. I will never figure them out.

Anyone know where to buy 3 dozen widgeon deeks?

you better put those dekes on a jerk cord if you think you will ever have a chance of decoying one!

All I can get is wigeons, out of all the ducks I have shot this season 60% have been wigeons.

Maybe It is my calling? What sort of calling is best? And my hunting buddies say I am overworking my jerk cord....so I doubt it's that Lorne

i have placed my mojos long past decoy spread as the motion attracts them but flare in close, this gives an opportunity for a pass shoot.

Pass shooting widgeons is all we really get a chance at. If i have time i try to switch out my #4's for BB cause i know its going to be a 40 yard plus shot.

I'm new to this waterfowling thing as I just picked it back up after years of not doing it. But in my two recent hunts, widgeons seemed to decoy in more then any other type of ducks. Well inside my effective range, which isn't saying much. Am I missing something?
