Well done Johnny. Do they come with the same dollar value or are they worth more due the rarity?

only double banded reward bands are worth money. Which are very few and far between.

Called them and they said they don't mail certificates anymore only email. Should here in the next few days. Also they couldn't see any information it will be on the certificat that they email.

Okay question from ignorant non-water fowler... why are banded birds so special? Does one need to report kill location etc for research purposes and the certificate issued as an incentive to report? Do they taste better? ;-)

And hermit, you dont have to kill it to report it. But yes you do need to specify where you shot it, date etc. THen you get a certificate telling you where it was banded, who banded it, how old it was etc. Bands are cool because they are pretty rare. Especially out here. Where im from there are places where its More common to shoot bands. And even then (i grew up 45mins from jack miners) I have less then 10.

To give you a quick break down there are around 12 million mallards in North America. Of those in the last 10 years 400k are banded, and of those around 23k were shot. So
.0019% of birds in North America end up shot sporting a band in the last 10 years.

:-D
thats not my total....:-D I shot 6 greenwings this year and sat my buddy and I each shot 6 drake mallards. yes that is the clubs total ...def not bradleys though. both hunts were with my best friend and were a lot of fun. I might get out once more by the 9th of jan. nice thing about where i work is that they eat duck twice a weekend and steak one night so the ducks are getting used plus they take them home cleaned and frozen. ducks gettting used isnt always the case at some places that cater to corporate types. they might leave the property but you know they are just going to disapear somewhere which is sickening.

I've been bird hunting for 29 Years and in total I have four duck bands and two canada bands.

So by Lorne's numbers you have to shoot 526 mallards, or 66 days limiting out of mallards, and in that time you'll get one.
