Sux either way. I've been lucky so far, but have had cams where they slipped, or batts died, and the anticpation of seeing some really cool shots is outweighed by the disappointment pretty quick, ain't it?

This sucks what happened ,,what I would do if this happened to me I would move my trail cam a distance from where it is now or ells where so this might not happen again ,,you can bet on it that this person will return again to where your trail cam is.

If I was going to put up a back up trail cam to catch a picture of the bad person I would put the trail cam under a few branches up a three at least 20 feet make sure it is not to noticeable,,if not to far in take a extension ladder to the place you are going to set up your camera ,,,not to many people look up into the trees ,,I know I don't..

Same thing happened to me in the fall of 2011. Went to check my camera and someone took my SD card. Luckily the camera was chained to the tree and because my camera is a Moultrie, i know i put a memory card in it because it wont work without the memory card.

i saw an advertisement for a trail camera last time i was down in the states. i don't know what company it is but they have solved part of the problem, their cameras come with an optional external memory bank that can be up to 250 away from the trail cam, up a tree, far away, even partially buried and it still works according to the company, its pretty small, full camo and is easy to hide, doesn't have to be close enough to get a pic since youll get a good mugshot of the dumbass stealing it. even if they steal the camera it will have all the pics of the intended and unintended targets. post the wild animal pics for us and the dumbass animal pics for us and the police ha ha.

I had 1 person walk by a cam this fall by fluke. They didn't 'know' just how insanely good of a spot they stumbled through . The pics were kinda funny as they checked out 'things I did' to detour deer to my cam.
I'd love to post em but then they might see who's cam it is and come back and hunt the shit out of it with 5 friends lol. As it sits not many would think of going there again .... Unless they knew 'what' lived there.

I've come across 6 trail cams in my travels, which feels like a lot to 'happen upon' pretty sure I saw them all before they 'got me' so I passed behind them to avoid being seen, carried on my way. I've lost two cams, one to a hunter and one to a salal picker (pretty sure) it's a shitty feeling I would never consider taking anyones gear, you are not only taking their belongings you're taking their time from working to buy that cam, place that cam and time to come back and get it.
$ is the least of most peoples concern here which is why it's just pathetic to do.
If there's two guys hunting the same buck(s) so what ? What's a little competition anyways... should be more worried about the cats and wolves getting "your buck" anyways :roll:

This is why I do my scouting with a real camera in my hand. No one can steal my camera or the images from me. :)

I once had a guy steal a bunch of stuff from my truck while I was hunting. He thought it was abandonded and had actually locked the doors so no other salvagers would take the rest of my stuff. I caught him on his second round as he was ready to smash the window in on my then 4 year old Toyota 4 Runner. He had already stolen my tool box, sleeping bag and other camping stuff. I did get them all back from him. And he was very thankful I let him live. ;) As a side note, I did know him and knew he had more than a few screws loose.

Hey Jelly, in the okanagan roughly half the valley is burnt, the other half not burnt. T-cam pics etc. reveal one or the other.... Every dam hunter in the valley hunts both habitats.

Work with a guy who's cam caught stolen , was locked to tree so the dinks just cut the tree down and stole the works. Speaking of Dinks in the park maybe those clowns with all the "garbage" just above the wildhorse will start packing camp out each year instead of adding to the mess. Last time I checked you shouldnt be stock piling camp and supplies in a park and cutting trails , going to ruin it for everyone.

The way I see it you take your chances when you leave an area & leave a trail camera behind on crown land for months on end. Not shedding tears for reported thefts or destruction on my part. I condone what Elkdom did. Similarly I would have destroyed the signs but not likely the camera if it had been placed in the area that we normally hunt unless it was authorized.

I have never seen a trail camera in the woods but believe that they should not be allowed a week before and during hunting season for major game. It takes away from fair chase. PERIOD!

Man, I go away for a few hours, and look what happens.
There IS a vid, I know this because it's in my hard-drive.
The person in the vid has an HBC cap with his name embroidered on the back, which is prominently displayed to the camera, which was on video mode, so there was no need to stand still for so long for the "Still" shot, buddy. We laughed our butts off at that.

Trail cams right or wrong aside, I see someone here specifically defaming someone. (I know we are all reading between the lines) We could all do exactly what he is doing to him. To me, either put up or shut up, or threaten him via PM's. A person who is not willing to call a spade a spade is a coward in my humble opinion. If someone stole from me, I would post up evidence. Defaming someone in public, is just about as bad as the celebrity gossip bitch magazines.

Went to go pickup my trail cam today: some guy took my SD card:evil:, I know he didn't take the cam which is good, but stealing is stealing. Was looking forward to 2 months of pics in what seemed like an awesome spot. Bush karma is gonna get em! Was even looking forward to uploading the pics for y'all to see, dag nabit.

Some people have no class at all. But, like you said, at least he left your cam. Maybe he's one of the less-than-bright stars on here and will post them ;-). THAT would be funny (but probabaly not for him)!

A few times lately I've thought of getting (purchasing, to be exact) a trail cam or two or three. After reading this thread, I've decided against it. Too damn much drama for me.
