I spent most of this past hunting season packing my ass around the bush in search of an elk with a bow, to no avail I must admit. Had some close encounters, but never did send an arrow. I always take the first week or 2 of September off for that and leave the misses at home. Little to say she is not to happy about that. Any-who, between me spending more than 45 days in the bush, her working shift work at the hospital and then me working in Saskatoon, it left little time for us to get out together and chase anything with the bows. I had her practising in the back yard out to 30 yards as much as she could when I wasn't here to help maintain her form and muscle memory from the past 3d season. She shoots a Carbon Element at 55lbs which send her little arrows out at 278 fps. I always say she's a freak for pulling so much weight but she insists its from playing baseball almost all her life. She's comfortable with it so that's all that matters. Yesterday was the first time that we could get out together in almost 2 months. Her hopes were high as I had found the glory hole for whiteys on Monday and had taking a nice doe myself with the bow at 40 yards. She has never drawn on an animal before so I didn't really know what to expect from her. We found a small group of 5 does and I stalked up behind her telling her the range of the closest one. Well, the last number she heard me say was 40 yards but the doe had bounced away another 8 yards after i stepped on a stick. she lets fly and the arrow goes low as she shot it for 40 instead of 50. Oh well! I say. That's archery at its finest. She was just happy to be out in the bush and was a little bummed that she missed but hopes were still high. About an hour later after smashing through some shitty trails on the quad, we cut a fresh track and go for a walk. 15 minutes later, we slowly come to a little ravine and a big doe is standing in the bottom of it. I tell her 30 yards, she draws her bow, settles the pin and WHACK. Perfect double lung pass through. As they say, the rest is history!

My girl needs some good cold hunting clothes.. what does your girl recommend?

Under armour base layers. Lululemon sweats......yea. I know. A warm hoody. All covered up in Rivers West pants and jacket. Also, I'd recommend getting her a toque with a ponytail hole in the back. Probably the best investment I've made in a while. Haha.

Good job nice sized doe, it'll be good tasty meat, it's the perfect temp outside to hang it for a long time, let it tenderize, cut off the odd strip smoke it to make jerky..

Here's a pic with her and the arrow after the shot in my make shift (no pun intended) snow camo. Inside out dirt biking jersey and a pair of white track pants.

I've got a freezer full of moose so the tenderloins are getting cut out and both of our does are getting made into smokies and pepperoni.

If you don't need the rounds, the hams make great cubes for winter stews! And yummy burgers!

No but he did see a few unicorns.

He shot at one but is string hit his jacket and he missed low. I was just happy he was getting out there with his bow. I didn't get one day of hunting in this year in BC. I was just surfing the net watching what everyone else was doing. Hard to get away with the little girls running around the house terrorizing.

Tell the wife we said Merry Christmas and were happy for her. I have still yet to shoot anything with my bow and I so badly want too.

That's something I just couldn't get done this year from a tree. Might have to change it up a bit next yr and try my luck back on the ground.

I showed my wife the photo of your wife hoping they knew each other, my wife works at KGH as well. Thought if they did know each other I might get my wife hunting and me a new hunting partner.

Congratulation to your wife on her first big game with the bow.
