Thought I heard some bucks banging heads today. Could the rut still be going on?

anything is possible.
but, even though there might be the odd breeding still happening, i don't know if the bucks would be fighting.
i was finding some bucks in bachelor groups near the end.
they seemed pretty relaxed and content.

May have been a samsquanch knock-knock-knocking on heavens door.

Main rut is done, secondary rut for unbred does, will come into heat around now.

this exact time last year I was sitting in my tree stand for whitties and there were cow elk calling and then a bull came around and was full on bugling! kinda off topic but unexpected rut activity none the less!

if a doe isn't bred the first heat she will come into heat a month later usually

Bucks are still in the rut they are looking and if they find a doe the chances are that the doe might be in heat..

Not so much a "rut" thing in the case of elk methinks.
Used to work in Waterton, and it was common to see / hear the Biggest Bulls bugle well into February.
Always made the smaller bulls CRINGE! LOL!
More of a Dominance thing that late methinks...
