Hello folks. got the Jan -Feb draw for Christian Valley this year....looking for my first elk. Been reading old posts here and will be contacting the local CO offices and McKinney Ck for some info. Anyone else got ideas or know anything about the area this year?
Seems that this hunt isn't a cake walk and that the heard is small and keeps moving around the valley....not looking for honey holes, just ideas or maybe a friendly ranchers phone# that wants an elk taken out...
thanks

Last winter Boss ranch never had elk, apparently the wolves had run them out of the valley.....they were closer to Rock creek.

Good luck, sometimes difficult to obtain permission and seems when you have permission the elk arent there.

Atleast this year they changed the regyulations and you can hunt crown up to a certain elevation.....a much needed change to the regs.

Take the first bridge to the East at the pub and go up to the old burn for a look. One I know was shot this year up there.

Dave hesketh at 20km up the Christian valley lets people shoot elk off his land if they are there. Also when heading too Midway as soon as you cross over the first bridge outside of rock creek( approx 5km) first ranch on the right. very nice lady let me shoot one off her property. you can see the elk from the highway if there on her land, if no luck go into the bar in midway or rock creek and ask thats what i did.

Back when I had my draw, no one was allowed on the Boss Ranch for elk. Soon after it was pay to trespass. Then she let the indians on and they shot everything they could. Good luck.

Looks like there is a change to this hunt and now includes all public land below 1100m....but I'll be damned if I can get one of the Govt link to open properly and show me the map....could anyone post a link that actually works?
thanks
