Found a nice area recently to take a couple of beauty woodies. We are basically pass shooting them. We have no decoys and no real strategy, we just found a good spot for them. It's my first and Diggers first also. His was taken on his birthday after a long morning hunt.

If anyone can add anything on how to improve our hunting of these birds, please add to the conversation.

Cool little guys ! I have a flight path over my house & often see them, they are very vocal & you can pattern them,on time ! That little guy would make a nice mount !How many you thinking of taking,im not sure how many it would take to make a meal ! Mallards might be better table fair !

Great looking specimens...They are one of my favorite eating ducks, and the look might good on the wall!!!

As far as tips on hunting them, I have always found that they fly early and late, so just at legal light and again at the end of legal, so getting to know them by shape and by the squeal is very important. I used to use a call made of 2 bottle caps hot glued together with a small hole drilled thru, pull air thru it and they would respond very well.

Good luck!!

The two ducks in camo look a wee bit odd, but the feathered ones are way cool!

A string of wood dekes with a couple of geese should improve success, one would think....

Where in the pit were ya today???
I didn't see either of ya's and I checked your honey-hole.

My experience is right place at the right time, never really figured out a system to target just Woodducks. As for eating I think thier the best of all ducks.

We got one a few years back now. They would sit in a spot where you can't shoot, about 150 yards behind our hunting spot.. then one frozen morning they left their little timber den and popped right into the lard deeks. Unfortunately the shot damaged it pretty good or we would've mounted it!

Congrats, beauty birds!

Can't say often as I don't see woodies "often" but have seen them ducks in a creek w/ geese on the field.

So you mean you suck air into the call?
