Handful of tags in my pack this season....got out and learned some country, trails, mountains, etc

Had a close call with a decent Billy goat in a tough GOS area (never put it all together), passed up a few cow elk and small raghorns, and shot a WT meat buck on the last day of my season.

Overall a great year. Juggling family life and being new to the area was interesting. Learned a ton though and man oh man I'm lookin forward to 2013!!

125 days InField.
Passed over 250 shots (bow) on Blacktails.
Took one MASSIVE Blacktail Buck (bow - over 200 POUNDS!)
Missed on the LEH moose - too many other predators both Two-Legs and Four.
Nice Muley Buck (cutting that right now) again with the bow.
And a nice dry doe whitetail - also the bow.

Excellent season, but this, the last day and I'm already done, always leaves me feeling a little morose. :icon_frow
Part of me still wishes it was Opening Day again!!

Good memories to tide me over, and planning for next season already underway!

Number of day trips I can't recall but it was at least 1 day every weekend or 2. if you asked my wife she would say everyday for 3 months  . Lots of laughs with my buddy BigSlim. For me it was two blacktails. Never did our mainland trip this year . I feel much like NOG. A little depressed when driving to work today. Guess I don't have to worry about the weather for the next 9 months.

I have had a great 2012 and its not over yet. Still going to get a few days in for some pred hunts. I broke my foot days before immy season so couldn't even try for one.
Here is my kill list for the year. I did not keep track of all days out but I have close to 100 tracks saved on my GPS:

1 spring blackie
2 WT bucks
1 4x4 mulie
2 coyotes
a bunch of grouse and plenty o sheds in the spring, tons of nice rainbows and my biggest ever at 9 1/4 pounds in August. You gotta love living in Kamloops!

Missed chances at:
1 wolf
2 WT bucks-one was a hog
many coyotes

Kills I was in on with friends:
1 mulie
1 WT buck
1 WT doe

Not as good as vip_ruger but still incredible.

Started off bow hunting black bear, passed on many blacks and color phase bears.

Next, an epic stone sheep hunt where I miss a 40 incher with my bow ( I know it was 40'' because I know the guy that got him) but still got 2/3 rams. You will read a long great story about that one from my good friend rubberfist. (one of the best trips I have ever been involved in)

Next, tagged out on my second moose with a drop tine.

Then tagged out on my first mtn goat. (another great trip with the guys)

Last tag cut went to nice 5x4 mulie

18 day elk and big horn trip was cancelled this year for personal reasons but still a great season. Freezers are full, wall lost some more space and the non forgetable memories with my buds keep piling up.

Congrats to everyone on HBC that connected this year or just simply had a great friggen time out there.

Spent Aug and most of sept in dawson creek...got to learn the area, personally didn't pull the trigger on anything up there, but my buddy managed to drop his first moose.

Spent 2 weeks in kamloops hunting the immy's...again didin't drop anything but camp put 4 whities on the ground. All in all was a great season, although is year 2 of me not pulling the trigger, but my freezer got filled last year and this year for helping get the animals out so both years = Success.

Spent lots of hours in the bush this season being my 4th hunting season, got a muley buck my first season, and 2 bucks each of the next 2 seasons, plus a black bear.
This season:
-Let alot of small bears go during the spring bear season
-Got a black bear region 3 this fall
-a coyote this fall
-0 deer! let several WT does go this year that had yearlings with em, is that ethical? Wish me luck one more weekend of bow only WT season..

August sheep hunt region 7: 2 nice rams and an elk, also saw more moose, elk, caribou, grizz, deer, and almost legal rams than one could imagine.
September mulie region 5: 1 nice velvet buck
October moose region 7: spike fork and a 56" tri palm
November region 3: 1 whitey buck, 4 mulie 4 points, 1 leh moose
48 days hunted
I shot the elk, whitey buck, and leh moose.

Passed up on too many big mulies early on only to find myself running around til last light on the dec 10th looking for my 200+ mulie. Conditions were tough for bush hunting November December, never got the dump of snow and bush was über noisy.

The best parts of my season is always sharing the celebration of being successful with good friends.
On the bright side this is the first year I never had a grizz incident.
Last 2 years saw wolves in spots they never used to be.

I didn't manage to get out until mid Oct. Spent a few days looking for an immy, by the time I confirmed points he was running away from me. My dad took a whitey doe though. After that it was just day trips near home. I took a whitey doe and dad got a big 3pt muley before the end of Oct. Then I rattled in a 4x5 whitey for myself and a 4x4 whitey for the old man before the season closed. Definitely a good year, now I'm just checking T-cams to see what's around for next year.

One elk trip, 2 elk down by 9:00 am the first morning.

Many, many day trips...about 3 to 4 every week. Past up many young bucks, busted a mature buck early on, saw a big one at a great distance, no deer bagged. Son scored on his leh bull moose late in november.

Seen lots of grouse but didn't actively hunt them.

Guided a few friends, one got a 3x3 mule and another got a leh doe.

Had the crosshairs 3 different time on some blackies but never pulled the trigger. Almost had a cub run into my arms!

Never cut a tag, but had a great hunting season. One of my oldest and dearest friends decided to start hunting, and I helped him with a black bear in the spring. Then we got a LEH moose so went out and chased them for a bit and saw a few but didn't get a shot off. Then PG66 gave us a crash course in moose calling and we ended up with a nice moose. He finished up the season getting a nice young 3 pt on his own, and I helped him cut it up and pack it out.

In many ways, it was a great season. Introducing my buddy to shooting and hunting, and having my 2 best friends in the world with me while we got a moose.

No tags cut, but very rewarding!

1 - full week trip, 3 -4 day weekend camps, a couple over niters, too many day trip to count. Saw my first lynx, walked into a grizz at 25yrds, a few moose, a few does(one close enough to tap on the nose) a few bobcats(why haven't I bought a tag?) but if I don't go out Saturday, my season ends with the freezer clean and still unplugged.

Tons of game treed with the hounds, took a good friend who moved from the koots out for a bear which he shot bayed up at 70yds, measured 6'11. I was fortunate to shoot two great animals this year, specifically a 7'4" pope and young bear, 110 7/8" blacktail, a character 4x2 blacktail, got the Mrs on her first buck a beauty 3x3 with my son in my arms (highlight of my year) and helped another good friend get a dandy deuce all in around 10 days deer hunting, near my best year to date. Spent 4 days in the koots (was hoping for 10) chasing elk, tons of action there with a new buddy whom we had talked about hunting together for years, finally did and now have lots Planned.
Now it's cat season again which has been good so far and have lots planned over the next few weeks can't wait! If 2013 is half as good I will be more than satisfied... some leh luck would be great !
Downsides, I had to cancel my sheep hunt due to a new job and house and my mulie hunt was cancelled last minute due to my partner being unable to go so definitely some disappointments too but that's life.
Sure been some great reads pics and threads on here, never ceases to amaze me what some guys do year after year. Wish everyone all the best, it's not over yet go hammer some preds !

it was an "oh fer" on a few trips.

Either chose not to shoot, or could not shoot. Seeing game is successful enough in my eyes, not to mention getting into new areas and learning new country - so I was OK with the trips I did.

Sept 20th 6X7 elk (1st elk) called out to the road after work one night. Passed on it 4 days earlier due to not being able to get a count at first light one morning. One 2 day trip 1, one morning hunt, and one evening hunt = done for the season.
Awesome year considering I was restricted to road hunting due to having my ACL rebuilt this year. Thank god for snatch blocks and rope!

70+ days in the wilds of Beautiful BC, local trips, road trips, spike camps, and never killed a single critter myself except some coyotes! BUT it might have been my best hunting season ever!! My son killed his first black bear, met a new hunting buddy, shared some fantastic memories with friends and family, my best buddy shot his first whitetail, with his new gun, its first kill, and helped my sister get her very first big game animal, a LEH elk. The elk trip was with my dad, son, and sister!! Hope next year is as awesome as last year!! Moosin

3 days Blacktail hunting...Zero
Worst year ever! Have a plan in place to change my bad luck of 2012. Never been skunked before.
2013 is looking good! Son is interested in hunting so I have a new hunting partner. That will put my hunting mojo back where it belongs.
Also my dad will be able to hunt again! Him and I have the best luck, and now with the boy with us we can't miss.
Look out you antlered yummy tasting creatures! Cheers!

Say in my blind every day for 2 months waiting for a big whitey. Missed him once because I reused an arrow I didn't know was cracked and it shattered mid air. (Couple hours before work in the morning) got a 3x3 Mulie on halloween out of the blind with my bow.
moose hunting trip in fsj for 12 days. Got a small tri palm and my uncle bagged a immature. Tons of grouse.
Oh and a black bear in the spring.

approx 90 days of hunting completely new areas and ended up canceling most tags bought.
in on 2 successful grizz
turned down or did practice stalks on well over 30 different black bears
5x4 elk
a tri palm moose
2 whitetails, 1 with the bow and one rifle
early in the season spotted 2 different 200 class muleys and was bound and determined to put one of them down, so much so. i turned down 15 different 150 to 160 class bucks and ended up eating that tag.
i cant wait until next season

No big trip this year but a ton of weekend and day trips.

Got a spring black bear, a late season 4 point muledeer 2 rabbits and a ridiculous amount of grouse.

The best part of my year was bringing my 5 year old son out around a dozen times and getting grouse on all of the trips. I also got to my tennant out for her first hunt and was successful in taking a black bear. Another highlight was when I helped my buddy get his first kill (bear).

I didn't get the bear I wanted but I got within ten feet of him, close enough to smell him but there was thick cover between us and by the time I figured out exactly where he was, he was flying through the bush at a dead run. I know where he lives though and I'll be back for him in the spring.

Only 2 big game down but this has been my best year to date due to the fact that my son is now old enough to tag along and I hope to spend many seasons with him.

Had awesome season. spent lots of time outdoors, discovered new territory, shot some tasty meat, that was turned into epic BBQ's with family and friends.

Hunting is about a lot more then keeping score. leave the "stats" to the ghey hockey/football fanboys.

2nd season hunting: spring black bear, opening day 7 point caribou, mountain goat. 0/30 on the black tail hunt at home!!! Still much to learn about forest hunting. High country hunting seems to be pretty straight forward if you are fit and determined. Mountain goat is definitely my favourite game meat yet. Mexican (Birrila) goat stew has been the culinary highlight of the winter. Can't wait to get another goat and hopefully try some other tasty meat next fall!

First hunting season for me.

- took a 2x2 muley early season in 3-18
- 4 of us took a cow and a calf (LEH) up in 3-30 (4 day trip)
- Assisted a friend on a 4x4 muley and a muley doe (LEH) within 2 minutes of each other in 3-27
- A couple handfulls of grouse
- 68 snowshoe hare between fall and spring

Haven't purchased meat since last Sept 15th or so.

Can't wait till August so I can start bringing the hare home again, and applying for 6 LEH species. Can't wait!

Hiked 70+ days this year on the Island looking for a hammer BT ... 4 solid chances at 100+ inch bucks with no sucess. 1 of which im certain was 110+ ... Blacktail hunting ... most on the island and coast knows how that goes.

Anyway finally filled one BT tag on Nov.25

Van Isl Blacktail ... 117 1/8 Gross and 115 2/8 net ... just squeaked B.C book

Not bad for the Island
