Here are a couple videos from the other day out looking for sheds...

Living in the EK I am learning where different animals winter in the different low hi elevations these movie clips on my shed hunt was taken

I did not come across one elk track on my 6k hike or one mule deer track the snow has been on the ground for months now i only seen WT tracks and beds ,it really opened my eyes to see how much the WT deer depend on old mans beard and the needles from blow down fur trees or fur tress that have bent over from the snow my videos tell all..

Mind you that elk will probably show up in this area eventually ??? but as for right now the WT deer have no competition on fighting for habitat in this one area..

O ya I forgot to say I never saw one wolf or cat track on my outing...

Good to see not as many predators in the wintering grounds, strange not alot of elk tracks though. Mind you with such little snow probably opens up alot of area for them.

This is a nice pic of the bull looking at the young new boron elk fawn the picture is from 2012 one of my friends in my camp took a nice 6x6 bull elk right from this spot 10 yards away......

Come wayne keep on track. I know its hard shedding out there right now but stay positive. I have been out every morning with no more luck. I am starting to get a little frustrated but today is a new day. One day soon we will connect and get out for a look.

I won't chase after any of the deer family when I come across them at this time of the winter I will film them then let them go on there merry way ,,after filming them I turn the other way and go about my walk so I won't push them..

Out yesterday to look around and I came across this 8 foot fence if I could continue on through past this fence it would come out at the Cranbrook rifle range can't guess how much this fence would have coast the owner ???.

Seeing that high fence makes me curious if there are any rules regarding the interruption of game migration routes. Probably not, although similar fencing along highways usually have under or overpasses by such critical routes.

MM its funny that I have the same nick name as your your name LOL and yes you are right I had horseshoes up the butt that day elk antlers I found 100 feet from that mule deer shed ,,was looking for the other side of the mule deer shed and I found this dead elk that being a 5x5 bull you just never know what you will find when you are out in the bush looking for sheds or whatever ...

It sure can be, its not to often you can take a few hour break and have a shed walk past. lol. Although I have sat on good vantage points and picked them out with optics on many occasions. There is still quite a bit of snow up this way in places but I have managed to find a few with my partner. 2 moose and 6 muley's all fresh.

Mike I think I will hit the spot in a few days you told me about when I first moved here ,,I only found one shed that day 3 years back but it does not mean that they aren't there now ,,also very nice find on the sheds you have found to this day ,,congrats..

Out today for a shed hunt I found 3 elk sheds from last year and one fresh WT shed from this year notice the tips on the WT shed this shed was under snow for a couple months.

The one elk shed was in the open I looked for about 2 hours for the other side and found it about 300 yards on the backside in the timber to bad it was chewed up from the critters..

If anyone can use these chewed elk antlers for knife handles or other let me know and you can have them I don't want them there chewed but some parts of the antlers might be of some use to someone ..

Great job Wayne, I have done well in the timber at times, but they do seemed to get chewed fast. I guess the critters are more comfortable chewing with the protection of the timber over top of them.

Out for two days shed hunting did not find any elk sheds I did see 12 bull elk all with there antlers still on there head ,,put on about 24k for the two days out ,,will head back out next Wed to stay in the bush for a 3 day shed hunt..

I did not want to push the elk where I saw them I stayed away from where I saw them at a long distance out when I could..
I did walk into a few bulls at close range but did not follow them I walked the other way for about 1/2k then continued on with my game plane looking for my first elk shed for this year ,,no worries just a mater of time before I find my first elk shed for 2013 here is my video clips from the two days out..

Kenny I covered every square inch of this area 20k long 20k wide and have not seen any big cankers I am headed back out in a few min from now to see what I can find me thinks ether there is a jean pool problem in this area or they don't get to get to be older because they get shot out in the GOS ???.

Shed Hunt day again today Monday April 8th 2013 out at 6.30am till 1pm saw lots of bulls all still carrying there head gear in the area I hunt for elk sheds hear is some good footage of two bulls that laid down in front of me at about 100 yards.

Well its that time of the month the elk antlers should start dropping like leafs starting now I will be giving it hard out shed hunting starting now till mid June headed out in one hour from now for the day shed hunting hope I find a few fresh ones today will be staying in the bush for 5 day shed hunt latter this week.

Yes jelvis you are right I am ether getting in top shape or I am getting tireder as time goes by at my age of almost 66 years old all this exercise is hard on me :icon_frow but I am a trooper and never say die I will take today off to recuperate then hit it hard on a 5 day shed hunt starting tomorrow deeks 1989 is coming to my home Fri evening and wee will hit it hard on Saturday all day till dark :).

I know that the elk in my area I hunt for sheds most are still packing any day they will start dropping and believe you me I will be out there looking and finding I wish I was in an area where there are more sheds all the walking I have done so far and only have two elk sheds from this year to my credit :cry:..

I have put on over 200k since March first and I would say that I will have close to 400k on my feet when June 15th rolls around ,,it does get depressing when I put on 15k on in a day and come up empty handed but a days out in the bush is better then a day at home LOL :)..

Stop keeping track there Wayner and just let it be what it is and take notes on the dates you see bulls drop so you're not wasting your time next year if you're down on the fact you haven't found much lately.
Another option would be forget the elk this early and concentrate on whitetail and mulies, you could have several months of shed hunting for just those two before even bothering with elk.

I was out for 3 days the end of last week and found out that the bulls are finally dropping in the area I shed hunt in was cool I found an older elk shed stuck in between two threes.

We hit a gold yesterday found 13 elk sheds and 3 WT sheds headed out in an hour from now to try and find more sheds we shed hunted from daylight till 8pm yesterday non stop put on around 20k yesterday bottom of my feet are hurting a little but got to get back out them there gold are laying on the ground ,,early bird gets the worm LOL.

Thanks Dan for the nice complement there has been lots of hard miles and sweat put on in order to find these sheds it's like scouting out areas for hunting season jumping all over the place knowing where to look when the bulls start dropping there sheds ..

Shed hunting is way harder then hunting elk in the GOS I put on 4 times more walking over train when I shed hunt I have lost 20 pounds in 3 months I am now 175 pounds I was 195 pounds before I started shed hunting in early Feb rough mileage is close to 400k over the time put on this year shed hunting.

I am no young man any more and I do get tired as the end of the day rolls around the Saturday that just passed I worked hard all day long with my hunting and shed partner we started at first light till dark and we figure we put on up to 30k that day.

When Sunday morning rolled around I was hurting somewhat in a few areas but still got up from my warm bed at home at 4am and said to myself them sheds are falling off them elk and you should head out for a short shed hunt I said ya I should so I got things together and a few choirs done in my home then headed out a 5.30am for a morning shed hunt if I did not go I would not have found this matching set on this day.

I will be heading out latter today for a 5 day straight shed hunt I will be out there walking looking and hoping I find a couple more sheds ,,I hope and wish the shed gods are good to this all timer and that I have the strength to continue up them mountain side hills.

My body feels not to bad this morning and one more good nights sleep will hopefully take care of a few of my sore mussels I have googled a hand full of possible new places to try over the next 5 days will see what they hold ?????? I will be sleeping in my pick up truck I call my spike camp.

Some of these areas are 400m above the lower areas I shed hunt on but will do what is needed to get up to them elevations I want to say that I give credit to my other shed hunting friend he is a real trooper at the age of 20 and I am happy for him to have found many shed with me over the past weekend ,,thanks for coming out with me on the weekend ,,,now to get ready for my next outing ...

Just got home from a 4 day shed hunt did not do very good I did find 13 sheds ,,I was wondering when I would have to use my air horn on a Griz well I did use it when a Griz was walking to wards me in a swamp bottom he was about 30 yards from me and did not see me so I gave him a blast he turned and ran and I turned and went for hi ground the tracks in the mud show how big this bear was.

Going to rest up for a few days before heading back out ,,the ticks are very bad they love the sage brush but no matter how hard I try to avoid the brush they still found a way to get on me I found about 10 ticks on me over the four day shed hunt a person has to take all clothing off and check your clothing and your body everywhere every four hours..

Sorry I did not get a movie clip of this brown grizz I used my air horn fist did not even have time to think of getting my video camera out to film all happened in a matter of 15 sec by then I was headed for hi ground and never did see this boar after we met about 30 yards from each other the swamp bottom was fairley thick in brush..

Sad to say that my shed hunting time has almost come to an end have to get a few things done around here in the next month then its into the bush to set up my 9 trail cams and salt blocks as for scouting for Mr big,,,,,, just have to come over the spot that me and my friend where yesterday.
Here are a few pictures and video clip from our outing yesterday ,,the 3 rights we found in this one place but could not find the left sides so this is why I have to go back a few more times to try and find..

Yes Rackmastr it was a good days shed hunt I put on around 20k this day shedding from 6am till 6pm 12 hours of walking over train ,,like I said my shed hunting days are coming to a close just have to go over the area where I found most the sheds then pack it in ,,I have a rough guess on how many kilometers I put on from first week of Feb till now its somewhere around the 450K..

Out for 7 hours shed hunting on Monday found nothing the grass undercover bush is getting thick I put on 10k this day overall close to 500k I put on from the first week of Jan to this day the 13 of may 2013 ,, I wore out 4 pair of new running shoes ,,, here is my final video clip for this years shed hunt outing ,,shut down till next Jan 2014..

Sheds from 3 years shed hunting ,,many more sheds out in my shed garden..
