The guy with the horse is by Revelstoke. They had a farm by there. Yes the rifle, last time I saw it it was 8 years ago, still in mint shape.http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad339/ronb_2010/Image1-26.jpg Father in-law, same rifle, 1945. He was 15 years old.http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad339/ronb_2010/Image1-272.jpg Don't what year, but this elk was shot in Princeton.Hard to say if same rifle,I don't think so, no scope either.http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad339/ronb_2010/Image1-273.jpg No clue where this moose was shot, but they shot this moose in the afternoon ran into the lake, to the swampy side. took them all night to get out.http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad339/ronb_2010/Image1-95.jpg Then for many years my father in-law and his brother hunted Nachako River. This was his bragging moose. Spotted it and shot from the sandbar. 2 shots, he claims the first shot made the head drop and the second, made sure it stayed put. Double Eagle boat with a Hamilton jet motor. http://i949.photobucket.com/albums/ad339/ronb_2010/Image1-25.jpgLast photo, Glimpse lake area, mid 80s. First time I went hunting with him and turned me on to hunting. Antlers on this moose, the other side is a funky 2 pt. Well I hope you like the pics. Guys if you have pic like Jagermiester, post them, like seeing old photos.

Sure like those hunting togs. Real hunters back then never wore camo, hell, they never heard of it!

You have to like those old blaze orange hats! My Dad just gave me his. I don't ever remember him hunting without it on. He also gave me a map of southern BC where he had marked all his kills for the 1960s. They hunted out of a Rambler station wagon in those days.

In the picture at the back of the truck you can see a rope on the ground this would be one thing they used to get this elk in whole ,my guess is that they backed up to a bank and pulled this elk into the truck ,,the truck is parked in a different place from where the elk was shot is my guess ???...

Not an hunting photo, but an older one, late 60's or perhaps the '70's. The Bombardier belonged to my Uncle Fred Shwaga. His is pictured with the shovel. The lady is my Aunt Pearl.
This was taken on Amisk Lake near Denare Beach Saskatchewan. The picture may have been taken by my cousin Bernice. The other two gents are unknown to me. My uncle, aunt and cousin are all deceased and sadly there is no direct inline relatives.

http://i1168.photobucket.com/albums/r496/Leaveoff/fred.jpg?t=1355102148

The last contact I had with my cousin was in 2008 when I visted her in Saint Albert. She was working on a project at the time. I asked her about the where the Bombardier and she sent me this picture later. As it probably sits somewhere in Denare Beach.

The Hat, I detect that it has a lot of nostalgia for you and you got a lump in your throat as you reflected those times as you posted them.
Funny, had a hat like that, never thought to keep it. But then, I keep enough junk as it is.

The method of taking pictures was with a glass plate. Everyone had to sit still until the photographer determined proper exposure time. Obviously, the dog did not listen to instruction and moved causing the blur distortion.

This is my grandad with a big peace mulie, in the 40's I believe. The antlers were stolen out of his truck while he was stopped for a bite to eat on his way home, to bad, sure would have liked to have them for show. Sorry about the scribbles on the pic, think he was trying to score the rack, since he never got to put an actual tape on it, any thoughts on how wide he is?

Hey One Shot. If your Grandpa was in his 20s in 1887, how old are you? Getting Older....

Never thought to think about it, but my father was born in 1918. We were born late in my parents life.

Cool pics!!!...Hunter1947...what did that 1972 Ford cost you back then and do you still have it sitting in your garage!!!!.....vintage all the way!!....oh most likely had manual steering....Think they called them a Highboy ....Nice truck!

I bought one just like it in 1972 - 3/4 ton - 4x4, 350 engine. Cost was $6000.00
drove like a pig and drank fuel like a pig . but boy would it work for you, could haul any thing from a jeep in the back to
a box full of rock or sand or gravel.

Stumbled on to this thread looking for something else.
The forestry lookout tower was on top of Dragon Mountain up to the late '70s when MOF decided it was no longer required. Then it was destroyed to make more room for communication towerw. There was an identical tower on Sovereign Mtn over in the Swift River area.

I used to like the 79 Ford F250/350s, had several that we restored, 429 motors, lockers, six inch lifts, 35 inch tires...so damn fun mudding! That was when gas was cheap lol...

Rackem real cool pics. I used to photograph professionally in Europe for years and that pic with the little fam blew me away. The lighting, the life in the eyes!!! that is one damn fine shot that LIFE mag would be proud to display on one of their old covers back in the day. Thanks, it brought back some of my own memories of shoots.

Back in 1970's my Dad , Brother , Myself and 2 hunting buddys used to hunt moose on the Salmon river in PG by canoe
One day on a road hunt we decided to walk up the railroad tracks by the Muskeg river.
Seen lot's of sign and a couple of moose on the sides of the tracks
My Dad and his buddy came up with this vehicle made out of Austin mini rims that fit very well on the tracks a frame and a 3.5 hp briggs
The "Trackmobile" as it was named was perfected on the decommissioned tracks in Sooke.
Fast forward to PG it worked great to recover game but as years went on we used it more often untill the day we met a train on the tracks
But that's a whole other story

That looks like the Spiller house on the way to Naramata. Orchard trees.
The car? I would venture to guess about a 1931 Essex.

Hiked Campbell mountain lots as a kid ( mid 60's ) where I saw my first black bear. Does look like the Spiller house. Hiked and hunted the 'Spiller Trap Line" blaze trail from Grayback canyon to Little White up until the mid 90's. All the logging around Salenger Creek, Randolph, Atkinson and the top end of Greyback lake have broken up the trail. In the mid-90's some of the wooden teepees and pegs for traps were still in place on the side of the trail. Sorry no old photos we were "too busy" making tracks, what a shame.

Dana's latest post re: "Family Tradition" spurred me into trying out the new scanner for the first time. Not too bad results considering what I had to work with...

The Tradition does indeed run STRONG in my Family!

Photo taken in Strawberry Valley (Utah) in 1913. Hyrum Argyle (right) was my Great Great Grandfather. His son Matt - between the deer on the left - (my namesake) was my Great Grandfather. The fellow in the middle is thought to be Del V. Argyle (a relative who lived until September 1953 - passed on while hunting sage grouse):

And Yes, those are wagon wheels on either side of them. Their "modern" form of transport back then.

Not hard to see where I get it from...

This one came with an interesting story. In my Uncle's words:

"Uncle Dell (making him my Great Uncle) Grandpa's Brother, came across this mule deer standing in the creek while hunting in Lake Fork (Spanish Fork Canyon) in 1949. He jumped off his horse and got ready to shoot it, then noticed something strange about it. So, he watched it for a while and determined it was blind. He and two of his sons roped it and took it down to their camp and tied it between two trees so it couldn't hurt itself.
After the hunt, they took it to the Springville fish hatchery where the Fish & Game had some corrals and pens for injured animals. The Vet told them that the deer had bad cataracts, and could only see about two feet at best. As a kid, I remember going there with Grandpa from time to time to check up on him. He lived for many more years in peace and comfort!"

An interesting piece of history combined with a great old family picture. Makes this one damn near Priceless in my books. :-D

September 2nd, 2000 helping dad pack out his first goat. Rubber boots when it's 20 Celsius is a great idea! Not the best quality pics, but a hell of a trip. I shot my first deer, a 4x3 Muley on the first. Sadly I have no pics.

Here's a signed picture Fred Bear sent to me when I was about 8 years old. When other kids had movie stars and rock stars as heros, I had Fred Bear as mine.

Some awesome photos in this thread, inspired me to drive out to my uncles today to hear some old moose hunting stories and he ended up pulling out the photo album. Some of these are from a fly in hunt he did south of Spatsizi in 1976 and the others would have been within a year or two in the Prince George area.

These two bulls had been fighting by the river and when my uncle shot the first bull, the second one thought he had knocked him out and kept smashing his rack into the rack of the dying bull, ultimately getting locked together and "forcing" someone else in the party to cut his tag on that one. Hard to make out in this photo but the two bulls are still as they lay locked together.

I've been searching for photos on the Royal BC Museum website, looking for images from an old fire station lookout I used to visit.

My Dad's best friend had a cabin on OK Lake near Fintry, in the early 70's...

When I was around 8, we would ride are bikes up to the lookout on top of Terrace Mountain.

There was an old man with his wife that tended it during the summer, we would sign a visitors book, have coffee and head back down.

Anyone on here have any info on this?

Any ways, in searching, came across this photo from 1902.

Looks like the guy harvested this bear with a c96 Broom Handle!!

Too cool..

there was a picture that I saw as a kid, somewhere in town (Vancouver), that I have tried to find but cant.
It was picture of an "old timer, standing with an axe, in front of a Grizzly he had just taken, and the bear was sitting, on it's butt, up against a tree, it was a "huge bear, or the guy was a midget, and the picture was believed to be taken a 100 miles or so from Vancouver, which was possibly around Pemberton, early 1900's??

If anybody knows, or better has this photo, I sure would like to see it again.
Can't remember the store, but it's no longer around, and it wasn't Hunter's.
