i'm kinda cheap, so went with the good ol' can and string set-up.
i don't recommend though, as it severely limits how far apart you and your partner will hunt.
odds are high you'll be shooting at the same deer.

I own and use the Yaesu VX-6. Small, waterproof and if you can reach a repeater with autopatch, you can phone out.

My selection of this radio was more about the size and weight, but adding in the capabilities made it an easy choice.
