I had a Bobber come to a call and I know of others that have taken Lynx using them.
Giver a whirl and update us.

I called in and killed my first lynx with a rabbit distress call, shot it with a 22, shot distance was the width of a logging road.

They are very curious, if one comes in don't rush the shot, they aren't usually quick to run. Also be very still and watch carefully, they don't come running in, they sneak in and will sit and watch you from under/behind a tree.

Try going down around Barton Lake area on the side roads off the A road I was there hunting this fall for a few days and I saw 3 of them

I'd like to try this as well this year. I've heard but don't know for sure , to put a stick in the ground with a string and feather on it blowing around in the wind . They are curious. Can't hurt to try it while calling

we saw a whack of em up in 5-2 a couple weeks ago. saw the same ones in the same spots almost daily. I'm no pro but I would think that they'll hang around the same couple sq. kms if the food is there. we were in an area that was completely infested with rabbits and grouse. thus the high numbers of Lynx.
Did you see alot of rabbit tracks in the snow? If you did, theres a good chance you'll see your cat again. spend the $8 on a tag and maybe get lucky.

When I worked in forestry I would see tracks in the winter in an area for several weeks.

I wanna try this as well. I have a road I call rabbit alley. In a 2km stretch of road I usually see 10-20 rabbits in the early fall. Hoping this is still the same case this time of year.

Happy hunting everyone and remember to always look behind you when calling ;)

A piece of tinfoil or small stove burner insert on a piece of string from a branch gets their attention too. They love duck carcasses apparently... Woodpecker in distress call is a good one, they catch the occasional pileated woodpecker.

Once spent 40 minutes with a male and female lynx in the middle of a logging road. They were in heat, calling back and forth. what a sound they make. I ended up sitting literally right beside the male, with only inches between us. Had a crappy film camera but took pics of the whole thing including the top of its head to prove it. Best hunting experience ever.

Drive the roads after a fresh snow and set up where you find the freshest track leaving the road.

Keep us informed on how you make out. I finally called in my first cat (bobcat) after 3-4 years of trying. I am going to concentrate on lynx next.

only thought is if a coyote comes in do i whack it or let it walk for fear to spook the cat?
Or shoot the yote hide it and try again
afraid ill give away position

Good luck tomorrow. There are podcast on the Internet that give great info on calling bobcat. It might help you out. They say that 40min to an hour max per stand. Hope to see some pictures of a dead cat soon.

Is it legal to use a live rabbit ? I raise some big Flemish I could tie down and blow a call.

Lol that's awesome Yama... There might be a stipulation with the live part of it but a dead one on a string might be fine ?

You sure it was a lynx and not a bobcat you saw?

I was unaware of lynx residing in region 8 but I have seen my fair share of bobcats in that region.

Locate fresh tracks then set up your caller. Make sure the wind is in your favor.

If your going to take coyote as well while your hunting set up with the wind at your back. Coyotes will always come from the downwind side. I have also read that the cats don't use their noses as much to assess danger. They use their site and ears

Ok yes and about 22 gave it some thought while going out in the bush with it wondering what i was gonna do if a cougar did show up
so i packed a 12 ga on back
after fumbling with 2 guns i think ill just bring my 243 and reajust fir some 55 grain rounds and will only need 1 gun lol
should b more ethical also
once again thanks for advise
and i cant find a woodpecker call anywhere
i will b in reg 8 again on sun
mabey i can find something
and yes it was diwn wind where he came in

I used a .243 on lynx...once. Even though it was a neck shot, it made a BIG hole. I'll stick with a .22Mag (or.22LR) for cats and use my .223 & .243's for coyotes and wolf.
