I keep hearing stories of elk sightings in the 100mile area, whats the deal? where the heck would they be coming from?

They say they are rare there, but obviously around. I never saw any in the years I hunted there, but then I did not see a lot of things I wanted to shoot either lol

a dear friend of mine owns quite a big chunk of property in the cariboo and she has a small herd of elk who seem to have taken a liking there and made her place their home....not a lot of them but they are there

I understand that a truck load of elk being transplanted to the north broke down in the Caribou region and they had to let them go in the area before they expired in the truck.. GG, any comments??

That was the rumour a long time ago, around the early '80s. It was further rumoured that the elk were from the Kootenays and destined for the Peace River region and never made the entire trip. Pure speculation on the part of the ranchers in the Gaspard/Churn Creek areas.

It was a goal for Mr. Forbes before he retired to have elk transplanted in the Cariboo and I think he accomplished that!!!

There is pockets of elk in most of most of region 3 so why wouldn't they be in region 5. Favourable habitat they seem to be spreading into new areas like the whitetails did 25 or so years ago.

the elk move up okanagan valley, across the plateau (highway 24.) then they'll make their way to the fraser by empire valley/ gang ranch and thats where they'll thrive.

thats my prediction at least.

I too have heard of it, but haven't seen personally. IMO the will thrive throughout most of these areas as the grazing habitat is unbelievable!
