Managed to get my first muley this past weekend, an experience made better by sharing it with my Dad. Walked into some brush on noisy snow, saw lots of fresh tracks. Can-called every couple of minutes on our way to a little point to glass some fields. Called and glassed for maybe 5 minutes when I heard some crunching in the snow past where we had come from. Couldn't believe it when I saw a big-bodied buck come out of the woods, binos up and counted 1,2,3,4 points, he's legal. Didn't feel that great about the first shot and he broke into a run for a fence after I shot, thought maybe I missed so I hit him again just before he was going to jump the fence. Both shots ended up in the ribs just behind the front shoulders and passed through, shot with Savage 99F .308 win, 165 grain Accubonds at 140 yards. I am happy to have some meat in the freezer on a long shot two day hunt in Region 5.

Having trouble posting pics so hope this works.

Thanks he was 170lbs on the hook gutted and skinned, head and lower legs off. Is this big for a muley buck? should be tasty as he didn't seem too stinky
