I beat the odds this year and drew a Nevada desert sheep tag. We had a great time and managed to take this old warrior.

Very pretty and unforgiving country, everything wants to bite you or stick you.

We spotted this ram with another ram in the morning and followed them into the canyon we last saw them in. It took about an hour but we relocated them and I had about a 200 yard shot down hill at a 45 degree angle off hand. One shot is all it took and I had this great ram.

That's a beauty! Congrats.

This will likely get moved to out of province hunts but I hope everyone finds it there.

I drew this tag through Cabela's TAG service. They were easy to deal with and it worked.

I beat the odds and drew a desert sheep tag in Nevada this year. I hunted with Silver State Guides and Outfitters, a top notch outfit. I had a couple of friends from Alberta and NWT come down and join me. We headed out two days before the season to scout. Colby and myself spotted a ram in a spot the day before the season opened and we decided to focus there. The next morning we headed in there but couldn't find the ram from the day before. We did spot two other rams and went after them, but by the time we got to where we had last seen them they were gone.

The next morning we were back in the same area and Kelly spotted this ram with another ram. We went after them, when we got into the canyon that they went into we couldn't find them so we backed out and started glassing. Colby managed to find them in a pocket to the west. They were about 200 yards below us and the big one was up feeding. I had about a 45 degree angle to deal with and had to shoot off hand. One shot managed to seal the deal.

I had a great hunt with some great people. Couldn't be happier.

Beauty! Not many deserts appear on this site! That will bring you closer to a NA Slam.

Congrats on a hunt of a lifetime. Great looking ram. Was he the best you seen? Pics are awesome. What were the odds of being drawn, that you beat? Which 2 will you be chasing to complete the slam? Good Luck.

I think this ram was the best we had seen. Tough hunting this year, the sheep were spread all over. You'd see a ram one day go into the same area the next and he'd be gone. I'm not sure on the odds but I drew one of 28 non-resident tags for desert sheep in Nevada. To complete the slam I've got to get a Rocky, which I've been rather snake bit on and a stone. Plans for the stone are already underway.

Start applying if you think you want to do it. A lot cheaper than going to Mexico. If you have any questions let me know.

What an amazing sheep!! I really like its character front all the damage to that chipped part at 6 o clock on the third picture. Good for you and if you have more pictures to share that would be great.

Now I'm jealous!!!!! I’m looking to start applying in the States for a few species myself, I only hope to have your luck.

Awesome ram! Congratulations. I've been applying for desert sheep in the US for about 10 years. No luck yet, but hopefully one day. You are unbelievably lucky to have drawn the second year.

The only water we came across was a little pot hole in a rock in the shade. These sheep are amazing how little water they need to survive in the winter. We had to pack all of our water for the day.

Very nice ram (its better than just very nice) - one that is highly coveted. Having this ram alone is over halfway to the slam in itself! Good luck with the other two in the future!

You hired a guide for this hunt, is this part of Cabelas TAGG service to set you up with an guide in the area of your hunt ? How much was the guide service ?

I did hire an outfitter, not knowing the country and having such a coveted tag made that decision easy. Cabela's has some outfitters they suggest to use but you can hire whoever you want. You don't even need to hire one and can do it yourself if you want. I did some homework and called around and came to my decision that way. They charged me $6500 for 15 days but we didn't need that many days to fill the tag. The guide I went with scouted the area extensively during the summer and had camp set up when we got there. I was extremely happy with everything.

Thanks for all the info. I will be using Cabelas TAGG system from now on, it's much easier than trying to apply yourself.
