View Full Version : The King of the Mountian Buck!

Well, another Big Buck BS story with no pictures!!! Dam, I hate guys that do that!!! Anyways, this is my story! Being out hunting as much as possible this year, seen lots of Bucks, but nothing of any size. I had some friends up for a few days last week, it was nice driving around in a truck with a heater for a change instead of riding the Quad in minus 5 to 10 degrees below! We seen a few Bucks, but like always nothing big. Sunday morning everyone was gone so I was up early, about 4:30 or so, hummed and hawed about going out on the Quad in the dam cold, seems it's starting to bother me now, mainly my hands and feet. But, I sat and tried to think where the big bucks were hiding, and after looking at all the fresh tracks for the last few days, I said to heck with the cold, I think I know where to be at first light to maybe at least get a glimpse of a decent 4 point! Off I go on the Quad to get to where I think there should be some deer. The area is exactly where I got the buck in my avatar a few years ago, so I know the area can be a real hot spot during the rut! You'll see in the photo's where I always stop the Quad, grab my coffee and glass, there was Does every where that morning! I knew there had to be a big buck partying on the hill side, but where??? I kept glassing, then in the top right hand side of the hill, right near the top was the biggest bloody buck I've ever seen!!! The sun was just coming up, and there he stood, broad side looking at the idiot on the Quad way down below him!!! I figgered about 6 to 700 yards, we'll go back up and range find it in time, so off the Quad I get, grab my Rifle and my Cane and get a dam good rest on a small snapped off tree beside the road. I had major trouble trying to find the Buck in my scope, I kept having to switch from binos to rifle, binos then rifle! Finally I had the Buck in the scope, aimed at the top of it's back, about a inch down, just enough so there was fur in the scope then I pulled the trigger! The Bloody safety was on!!!I click off the safety, took a few seconds to find the Buck on the hill again, then I slowly let out my breath and fired!!! I was using my T3 300 Win Mag with 180 Hornady BT's, the buck jumped, took two steps and fell in it's tracks!!! I dam near crapped my pants!!! So now, I bino the Buck way up this hill and think how in God's name am I going to talk a few friends into coming up here and get this Buck off the Mountain for me??? I did, my Wife and a buddy came up, we cut a trail off the road at the back side of the hill and I got my Quad within 100 feet of it!!! I had to winch in, and winch a few times to get the Buck out, but was worth every painful moment!!! I shouldn't even be out playing around in the bush, never mind hunting they say, but I'll dam well die happy out there with a Buck in my scope, sooner than lying on the couch watching TV!!! Anyways, this is just another BS Big Buck story without pictures, so if possible could I e-mail the pic's to some nice guy, or girl that could attach them to my story??? Thanks for your time, Marv Dean.

Great buck and great shot.....and yeah, I think I heard a rumor about something you have described around incline and decline and how something called "gravity" can affect a bullet in that scenario......

great buck but you may need to review a ballistics chart before you start pulling the trigger 700 yards is a 7 foot drop if you are sighted in at 300 I owe you a apology Chilcotin Hillbilly, your dead on with the bullet drop at 700 yards,I went back up there for another look, still looks like 6 to 700 yards to me, but I think if a guy was to range find the exact spot where it dropped it would be 500 plus yards! Either way the buck didn't even know he'd just died, and the last thing he did was breed a herd of hot Does! Don't get much better than that! As soon as I get the skull cleaned and shiny white I'll get it green scored, and no matter what it measures out to be, it's a Trophy Buck to me!!! Thanks again for all the positive comments, M.Dean.

I think you're confused a bit. You must be referring to that clown last year that actually posted a video here of him shooting a small wt buck in the butt and lost it, and tried to blame it on poor bullet performance.
