A few of the boys and I decided to go on a last minute mule deer hunt this year after none of us drew any moose, elk, or sheep tags.
Our method was simple. Get off Vancouver island and give hunting blacktails a break and try our luck with some mule deer. We packed our bags and loaded 2 trucks and got on our way.
The last bit of advice our buddies dad gave us before we left was "don't shoot the first legal buck you see"..... Funny thing...
within the first 30 mins of our first day my buddy spots a beauty 4x4 in the first slash we start spotting. After letting it bed we put the spotting scope on it and with further examination we find he's got double drop tines, one on each side. The deciding factor in harvesting this buck. After closing the gap to about 250 yards it takes one shot to put this buck to bed one last time.

After a few more days go by spotting more deer than I've ever seen we come back to camp to see that our other buddies that took truck 2 were able to drop another nice buck. They found this guy in some real nice timber they had glassed the day before. The deer on the left.

On my last day of he hunt we were able to spot a large deer that I had seen the day before. I had my cross hairs on him but never got the confirmation from my buddy that he was a shooter as it ran away. This time we were able to set up the spotter on him while he was sleeping, nearly in the exact same spot we seen him the day before. After a very crunchy stalk I was able to get above him and take a shot. He was onto me and was out of his bed but I was able to squeeze a shot off and dump him. You can see from the pics he's a pretty strange buck. He's got real heavy bases, 3 scoreable stickers off the back on his strong side and huge brow tines. His weak side is super different. With huge double brows, 2 more small scoreable stickers off the base, and two points coming up off the main beam. Super happy with him. He wint score huge but he'll look cool on the wall.

Our last buddy with the last tag was able to get this monster the day I had left to go back to work. Wish I could of been there to celebrate. It was a hunting trip of a lifetime that'll not be forgotten in a long time.
