Any locals have any advice, or where to park and start at least?

Check the maps and make sure you know the park boundary.

We used to hunt across from the kinder morgan oil tanks. It might be private property now.

That's all private now. Sumas is tough to hunt. Head up to batt rd and be ready to get frustrated. Maybe at the base near page rd might be worth a shot.

There's still lots of deer on Sumas, you just gotta look in the right places! Head for Batt Rd and strap on your boots, find the sign and you'll find the deer. There's a fair bit of logging up there from the last 5-10 years, some good ridges and old road beds. There's a pile of people too so be prepared, the further you are from the road the less you have to worry about them.
Good luck.

google earth..find all the rocky ridges, moss bluffs..old growth timber and look for sheds, once you start to find some sheds then you've found a good area to start!trail cams are great to..there are some true monster's up there..if you drive up batt rd you can see the size of the rubs those beast are making..Big ass Blacktails up there, good luck!

I've found rub lines that go on forever with very little hiking...a few low budget grow ops too... I've only ever seen one buck, but no shortage of sign... I don't have a bow, just look for fun. Check outy creeky bluffy country, you can't go wrong for bedding areas anyway......seen the buck in a real steep ferny area near some does around the rut.
