Well I wanted to fill the freezer some more and didn't have time to get back up to the alpine for a nice big guy so I went to one of my favorite little areas for a Blacktail. I have been pretty successful in the area with 3/4 trips ending in packing out meat. I set up camp in the dark and on the way to my camp I saw a lot of eyes from the bushes. I went to sleep thinking that I was going to find another buck in the morning.
When I got up I hiked about 4 km to a brand new cut where the deer had been feeding like crazy on the downed cedar. We took a buck out of the area a month ago by cutting some of the taller branches off the downed cedar trees and making a little pile and sure enough they were feeding off the pile the next morning.
My plans did not work out this time as they were clearing out the block with heavy machinery, no deer around. I switched up my game plan and started to hunt the timber and about an hr later I found a couple bucks about 50 yrds. away through some trees. I found the bigger guy in my scope and squeezed off a shot and he was down. If I had only picked up a second tag I would have tagged out for deer this year, his buddy just stood looking at me for about 30 seconds after the shot...
He is a 3x2 plus some little brows, some all right bases in my eyes for a Blacktail from this area.
No camo needed once again!!!!!
