The Season that Could Have Been… the Season that was.

This was the year ofamazing potential. My wife and I both picked up spring grizzly draws as well assheep and goat and we planned several hunting adventures, most of which she hadnot been a part of before and optimism was strong. This was the year where we may have to sell afew superfluous organs to pay for the taxidermy!

While it was an amazing year where we came away rich in newfriends, with a wealth of memories, and renewed faith in how much adversity anold (mine) body can still handle, the empty freezer echoed it’s disappointmentand the looks from the children facing a winter of store bought meat was almosttoo much to bear.

We had one last “kick at the cat”, as it were, and withrenewed hope and enthusiasm we loaded the truck and struck out for theMonashees. November whitetails! The area we hunt hadn’t failed us in the past 3years and we sorely hoped it would provide again. I believe I heard one of thechildren quietly mutter about coming home with something or not at all. You could feel the love as we abandoned themyet again for another hunting expedition.

I’m a picture taking fool. I’ll abandon creature comfortsand replace it with the weight of my DSLR camera. It pains me to have to relyon compact cameras but I will if I have to. Looking back at my photo library I’ve taken close to a 1000 picturessince the first trip this spring. I click the shutter a lot… mostly because 8out of 10 of my pictures are crap!

But, as they say, even a blind squirrel finds a nut once inawhile.

I’m posting up a favourite pic from each of the 4 biggerhunts we did this year. For me they invoke a reminder of the wild places I loveto haunt and the people I hunt with.

So post up your favourite photo- be it memory or mount- andlet’s toast 2012!

Spectacular photos! I love the time lapse AND the lack of over exposure; you managed to capture the richness and colour of your landscape. The trad bow and arrows glimmering in the one photo seals the deal on that one.

nice deer too.

Right on, looks like you were into some great country...couple pretty nice bucks you and your partner put down! More importantly did you hace fun AND did you see any creatures in your travels? Looks like you were hunting with some traditional tackle for mulies? Pretty tough to bag one in that kind of country. Awesome photos, keep them coming!

ToddB: always having fun on those trips! Oh and we saw a few critters in our travels.

SS: We got around a fair bit this year. :) Part of the fun of having kids who can drive themselves places now... and they remember to feed the dogs. :)
