I got this picture from a local hiking forum. It's from a mountain I climbed last year named Breakenridge, a fellow from the site climbed it this year and took this picture which he believes to be a Grizzly, what do you guys think?

Looks like one to me...although hard to say 100%. There are grizzlies in Squamish, there are grizzlies at the north end of Pitt Lake, there are grizzlies in Pemberton, there are grizzlies in Lilloet. Having said all that, there are almost certainly grizzlies around Harrison...although probably very few.

The only thing about that photo that says grizzly is that, tiny, floating hump. Location of the bear and the amount of rocks on snow where bears live is a lot more highly probable. I'm not an expert, but after 52 dedicated days of grizzly hunting and 150 plus days of black bear hunting I say black bear.

There would be grizzlies up there for sure. Worked at the end of Harrison and heard a few stories about grizz up there. Lots of goats around breakenridge as well. Glassed many last spring and during the summer while worki g up there.

Gonna have to say it's a black bear based on shape.

There's a tale afoot that speaks of one of the Gander family shooting a Grizz that was eating a black bear in the peaks of east Harrison. It was in the early 80's as I recall. Then only a few years back someone I spoke too saw 4 in the hills west of Boston Bar. As a grizz goes, east Harrison and west Boston bar, are so close it's not funny. Not sure about this picture, but it wouldn't come as much of a surprise if one was seen in there.

Years back we spotted a Grizzly sow and her 2 cubs on The Old Settler. That's pretty close to the area you are looking at here.

that was my ol'man..! He was charged by the bear while inspecting the kill.. Meet one of the Gander boys hiking out with it who id'd the bear as he was unsure back then...heres a pic of the scull:

no doubt theres a few grizz up there but I'd say that one is a black. based on head size and front shoulder stature.

There are moose in the sunshine valley area, And there are also grizzleys at the north west end of Harrison Lake. I have seen one in the eighties high above twenty mile bay. I also know a native guy who lives back there and he says there are silver tips around there.

I wouldn't at all be surprised to hear of or see a grizz back there. Pretty wild country thats for sure! I also know a guy who used to hunt in a valley north of hope just off the Coke and said it was full of elk and moose. Wouldn't be surprised if there were g-bears there too.

The picture is not good enough to really do anything but guess.

Seems to me that hump on a grizzly tends to give it the appearance of having a "saddle back" while blackies seem to have a more level looking back, the animal in question seems to exhibit more of a level back (to me anyways) so I'm saying black bear.
