Any guesses as to why this buck has antlers like this? Very small but kind of cactus looking

He is too mature and big bodied to be a spiker, or doe with antlers.

Injured during antler growth? Old buck? Just handicapped?

Heres a better picture showing the body size. Big rutting neck.

Definitely not a doe, I've got lots of pictures of him chasing and pushing does, and heres a body size comparison between him and a doe.

so he can stand up on his hind legs with his back to that tree and rub the bark off of it to make him look like a really big buck

Maybe it's the food he's been eating lately? How long have you had the bait out for? LOL

It could be a cactus buck. They have had the misfortune of somehow being naturally castrated, and ever after they don't lose their antlers. The antler growth year after year kind of just piles up on top of whats there. Here's an article: http://www.kingsoutdoorworld.com/feature/cactus-bucks.shtml

It is a myth that cactus bucks don't shed. I know guys that have picked up their sheds. They just grow longer than other bucks is all.

As for this buck, he'd still be in velvet if he was a cactus buck. Probably a regressed buck is all.

Could be a hermaphrodite, had a friend shoot one that looked similar, had no boy goodies, but had similar antlers all gnarly friend said it tasted great, had loads of Fat. I shot a BT that looked like that, key chain antlers, it tasted good as well, it was normal gender.
