So for the last couple days a buudy and i have been hicking our butts of from 600ft all the way to 2300ft up at stave lake area with out seeing a single deer, just fesh rtracks and a couple rubs throught out the days. We decided to try a new area and it didnt take long to decide we were in a good area. Rubs every 10-20 feet heavily used trails and lots of good cover for them to hide. We set out this morning only to see a bunch of does a ok 2point and a couple little 1'' spikers.... they were rather cute and playful and had no care at all that we stood only 4yrds from where they were playing and feeding. After lunch we each set up on a section of rub lines and waited we both had deer this evening but i just happened to be at the right spot at the right time. As i scanned the hill above me i noticed a couple does moving across as i watched i noticed a 3rd deer coming, one quick look through the densse forest and i could tell he was a shooter. Tall wide and heavy body, he only gave me a small window to shoot throw so i ranged the trail he was on and drew back.... 50 yards kept running through my head and i thought of all the practice i've been doing and when he came into the opening i wistled and he stopped dead in his tracks.... SMACK right in the heart a perfect shot and he only went 40yrds down the hill.

Sorry guys/gals i cant upload the pics but heres a link to my facebook pics

Nice buck... great to see the bow getting the job done. Keep that area in mind for the following years. Probably a great place to look for sheds also as BT's tend to winter where they rut

Regarding the bear... The mother got hit a week before by a car and the little cub hung around the house and wasn't doing very good so one morning on my way out the door to go to work I found him curled up by the stairs and when I checked to see if he was sleeping or dead I yelled at him and nothing so I poked him gently and he slowly got up slumped over to a tree and climbed up (barely) so I called the co office and they came and tranquilized the bear and I helped catch him in a tarp as he fell out of the tree. He was tagged and taken to critter care in Langley to be rehabilitized cause he only weighed 16lbs and then was released back to the wild.

Good job Yota. I wish I could get my quad on the Catherwood barge. There is very good hunting back there.

Good job Yota. I wish I could get my quad on the Catherwood barge. There is very good hunting back there.

catherwood barge???? no idea what or where that is and for everyone else the door was shot on the west side of stave and near the 6km marker up a gated road and around 2300ft elevation. hope this helps.

ps hope youve been hiking lots cause the pack out is harder then the hike up :-D but so worth it

The catherwoods used to have tug boats up there when the camp was operational. That was how they got the logging trucks up to the north end of the lake.

ruger#1 and i spent the morning up the east side stave ,around 800-900 ft mark in a nice 3 yr old cutblock.I shot a nice bt spike meat buck in there on oct 10 th this yr just to get some fresh meat.Figured we'd hike in this morning to the same south faceing block and spend some time bleat calling.long story short no sightings and only one fresh rub.there still up higher and as soon as we get snow they will be down....back at it in the morning

Ran into 2 deer hunters up there about a week ago, think it was you from the picture but it was at night in the pissing rain. Were you the fellas in the Ranger that I gave the jump start to?

Heh, my GF and I were happy to help those guys; poor *******s killed their battery about 17 km up the road and we found them hiking to the top of the mtn trying to get a cell signal. They'd a been there all night in the -1 temps, shivering in their truck. Either way, glad to see your hunt panned out.

Well as i said yesterday we'd be back hard at er this morning.Glad we did as i anchored a nice 4 point Blacktail at first light this morning. My huntin partner Ruger#1 and i went into a different spot we usually hunt every yr and upon arrival split up to our corners of the mnt.Fog was down around the 400 ft level and it was pissin out.I just had that feeling id be bumping a buck today and i wasnt even 20 minites from the truck and i spot 3-4 doe's beating for the tree line ubove me.I got my gun up to see if there was any antler on the doe's but couldnt make out anything due to low light and fog so dropped my rifle for a slit second and all of a sudden this 4 point leaps up from his bed only 30 yrds from me and starts heading fast up toward the does. All i had for a shot was the back of his neck as he was heading out quick to catch up,.thats all it took for me to put one 240 gr from the 375 hh into the back side of his neck and he dropped like a sack of potatoes! When i hiked up to him i couldnt believe the size of the body on this black-tail!! pics to follow

thanks for the pics mark. Not the biggest rack but he's one heavey deer,im 6'1 265 just to judge the body size.On the hike in i had noticed his big tracks on the deer trail and was amazed by the size of his hoves.I put a 375 HH cartrige between them so you can get some scale of the size of his front ft.this ones gonna get mounted

i think its just the camera angle its a black tail but I agree it sure does look like a muley.

I ended up scoring him just to see if he made P&Y and to my surprise he just made it... scoring 107 3/8"
