Come on, Duallie, don't let the intricacies of this site get you down. Looks like the start of an epic story. Take your time and tell it right.

Btw - two of your pictures are sideways. Good thing I'm reading along on my iPhone.

Great buck, good on you for finding him early and then hunting him down. I just take it the easy way and stumble across the dumb ones without putting in all the work.

Well done. Looks like there won't be much time left to hunt that area until she is a touch overgrown! One of those pine trees in the background is really rockin.

yup.
the tough thing though, was that there was an even bigger deer with him.
the other's rack went way up, much, much higher than this guy.
i sat watching them for some time, one was going down no matter what, but i was waiting to confirm that this was my buck from july.
they were walking along, feeding, and he kept his head down in the grass most the time.
three times they spooked and ran into the trees.
but each time they wandered back out.
finally he gave me a head-on glance and i completely recognized the curves of his rack.
i never did get to see the ear, that would have made his identity easy.
when i finally dropped him, the other deer just stood there.
i stood up in the cut, expecting him to run but he never did.
and as i took steps toward my downed deer, so did he, seemingly wanting to go see what his buddy was doing.
it was amazing being that close to a magnificent deer, and he wasn't running.
we were getting closer and closer to each other, both closing in on the deer.
i'd say we were about fifteen feet away from each other, right out in the wide open, when he finally couldn't take it anymore and reluctantly sauntered off.
it was an incredible experience.
there was even cooler shit that happened during this hunt, i'll maybe try later at putting the story together again.

the other thing that made this hunt so special, was the bond i felt i had with my deer after seeing him so close in july.
i had spent so many days just staring at those pictures, determined as all hell to get that close just one more time.

hi jon.

it's my biggest to date(although i've never scored any)and definitely the most memorable.
but this one from kelowna is my widest, he was 30 inches.
that was pretty special for me.

Looks like an awesome buck. Cool to spot him in the summer. Way to do your homework.

30" and smaller forks, that thing was well on its way to be a dandy.

yeah, he's nice.
but he may have been older and not getting any bigger.
his bases are very thick, and big gnarly eye-guards.
the spot i got him, i got three bucks, three years in a row, all on october 24th, and all between noon and 2pm.
and they were all within 100 yds of each other, checked with my gps.
this guy had just finished thrashing some willows, you can see the bark all over his rack near the bases.

Interesting, looks like a burn buck, I had a 3x2 out of there that had a 25" Spread, was gnarley and goofy looking (main beam was about 20" long on left side before it forked) and stunk to high heaven, on Oct. 24 two seasons ago. Although he was young and had mad potential.

yeah, there are some good bucks in there.
the year before this guy, i got a 5x4 in the same spot, not as big but a really unique rack.
i love that burn.
i used to hunt it real hard before the fire, and it was sure weird seeing the terrain that you've walked so many times, without any trees now.
still dangerous in there though.
when it's windy, i always hear big trees falling behind me.
